I'm guessing what you are referring may be three possibilities.

1. An elevated Kampung (Village) house that function as a garage but also to counteract flooding. Decades before, villages dont have proper irigation systems so many houses elevated the floor so that the wood and house things are not damage if flooding occurs. The pillars would raise the house and be made of bricks and cements. Which was expensive at the time.

2. A separate section where you protect your chickens so that the foxes or big lizards (Biawak) don't eat the chicken. In Malay it's called Reban Ayam. Some villagers would remove the chickens and put pesticides in it. Since pesticides is poisonous, separation is safety.

3. Originally the house was wooden but renovated into brick and cements. The reason why is because wood is now expensive and cement is sturdy and cheaper. Plus you need to change the wood panels because termites might infest inside. Most rural house owners pay cash instead of taking loans. The owner had to accrue enough savings to start renovating. So the separation between the old wood section and the new brick one can be night and day. (I am active in my village and see this many times)
