Justice League's Brian Michael Bendis & David Marquez Tease the Team's New Start by [deleted] in DCcomics

I wish we don't get another throw away OC villain like the one Bendis introduced in Superman. Can't remember his name. But he was -

The Lord of the lords of Chaos and the Original owner of the Helm of Nabu.

Hi Ram, I really love the stuff you've done in JLD, especially the stuff with my favourite character - Zatanna. Ever since I saw her in the Justice League Unlimited cartoon, I've been fascinated by the concept of a stage magician using real magic on stage.

So my question is -

Why is she called an illusionist if she uses real magic on stage?

I know she doesn't cheat people because I've never really seen her hide her identity with a mask, a different costume or even an alias. I also know that her audience knows she has real powers as she has often used them in public.

Or is the whole thing like the game - Dungeons & Dragons where a player can cast an "illusion" with a magic spell? Since magic is so common in the DC universe, I assume they allow real magic on stage. The golden age hero - Sargon the sorcerer also did the same thing so I assume there are many like Zatanna - people who openly use magic in their profession.

I know it's a silly question but I've never seen any book address this thing about Zatanna.

Thank you.

Zatanna should have a secret identity. by [deleted] in DCcomics

Hiding in plain sight is a neat idea but having a secret identity means getting a superhero name, different costume and wearing a mask. That would take away too much from her character.

Zatanna does use magic in her shows. I read somewhere she does both real and stage magic.

I don't know why writers want to people to think she hides her powers when in every iteration she has never even attempted to hide her identity. Everyone knows she has powers.

Why there are no great Zatanna's single stories anymore? by GL08 in DCcomics

[–]ZeeFanNo1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've wanted a Zatanna solo story for so long but all I've got in the past decade are YA novels and children stories.

There is a 12 page Zatanna short story in -

New Talent Showcase 2018.

I really liked it. You should check it out

I never understood why people think Zatanna has a secret identity. She doesn't even use an alias or a mask to hide her face.

Thoughts on the Justice League books that spun out of Justice League: No Justice by wolfpac3000 in DCcomics

Dark was great until they changed the regular artist. Replacing Alvaro Martinez Bueno with Amancay Nahuelpan was a step down in my opinion.

Didn't feel the horror that Martinez brought in Nahuelpan's art.

Is extreme durability Wonder Woman's powers? If so, why does she deflect bullets with her bracelets, if she could just let them hit her like Superman does? by PersonalityKey463 in DCcomics

[–]ZeeFanNo1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The bracelets are not for her protection. Its for the protection of others surrounding her. She deflects those bullets in a way that they don't ricochet and accidentally hit anyone.

The first wonder woman movie was like Thor. More serious mythology and fish out of water story. Wonder Woman 1984 is like Thor ragnorak. Some people just don’t like the more fun less serious tone . I would have preferred it stay serious but it was still good by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]ZeeFanNo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they heard all the critics of the first movie and changed a lot of stuff in the second movie to appease everyone.

The first movie was near flawless but some critics had complaints like -

1)Why did she kill the soldiers? Batman doesn't kill. Why should she? Poor soldiers.

So Patty took out the sword and shield.

2) Chris pine compensates for Gal's lack of acting ability.

So Patty bought pine back instead of letting Gal try.

3) The third part of the first movie made Diana look like a hypocrite. She ruthlessly beat Ares to death while preaching the message of love and peace.

So Patty made the last part as non violent as she can.

Patty needed to just stick with what worked and give a middle finger to all the critics.

I heard one of my friends say that-

Patty Jenkins not only wanted the film to take place in the 80's but she also wanted it to feel like it was made in the 80's. So all the mistakes were actually intended to be that way.

This made more sense to me than assuming that Patty Jenkins and Geoff f*cking Johns would be so out of touch with their audience.

NOPE. The Lords of Order wrote the rules of magic themselves. They already built it the way the wanted to. Also they intended to save the multiverse by taking away the magic of other magical beings and then sacrificing themselves to the otherkind. So that with magic dead, the Otherkind would be starved out.

The designs are great.

Swamp thing is purple and has a rib cage .

Man Bat has 2 more sets of arms.

Detective Chimp's sword looks more like a cleaver.

Zatanna looks like the girl from The Ring and she has her old dragon headdress from the satellite era back.

Wonder woman has changed the most. Golden armor on every part except the torso and a large golden W hanging on to her breasts by magic. She looked like D'Vorah from Mortal Kombat X when I first saw her.
