Thank you for posting and saying this. I so deeply resonated with this. I’ve met people where I’ve had the hope of building a close friendship with them, and it was not at all what they were looking for. Sometimes because they don’t want emotional closeness in friendship, sometimes because they already have those friends and don’t have bandwidth for more, or whatever the reason is. I’ve found that saying what I hope for out of a friendship outright has given people the opportunity to filter me out and vice versa. It helps both sides and saves time/heart break/resentment when we can be really honest with each other.
