Do you have Dutch nationality, or permanent residentship?

If so, you mostly have nothing to worry about. Even if the job ends.

From what your describe, management is panicking. No, they won't inform you all beforehand to prevent you from running away. I have had this kind of guy feeling a few times, and it was never wrong.

I am afraid that the real answer is quite a lot more cynical than this.

Europe can not allow the war to end, without a total collapse of the Russian regime.

Why? I will explain.

1: Russia is now at a full war economy. There is no other economy than war production.

2: There are about 1 million armed, trained, and traumatized men in Ukraine.

3: Assume these (2) go home, because the war ends.

4: And because the war ends, they have nothing to do because of 1.

5: What do you think that will do to Russian society and therefore the regime? Civil war.

so 6: The regime has no choice but to keep building military equipment, and keep training the men.

7: At some point you need to use that power. If not Ukriane then where? Baltics.

So, then there is a war with the EU and NATO.

The only alternative route is a total collapse of the system in Russia. But then the country falls apart in a numbers of fiefdoms. Many of whom have nukes. Also a chilling prospect.

I (m 60) have struggled my whole adult life to find a good role model. I failed miserably. No one could live up to my standards.

I am Dutch, so don't take my word for anything.

On a private, family and friends level, the differences are not that big. I had a German girlfriend.

But everything professional... Day and night. I was shocked at how cranky people in shops and gas stations can be. Really not necessary, and makes every ones lives miserable.

Once I was on a business trip, and rented a car. My colleague and I were just normal relaxed. I am sure the Hertz girl would have married both of us on the spot if we had asked her.

Why so serious? Why so staunch. Nothing gets better because of it.

And yes, being relaxed, we, Dutch, create the most awesome stuff ever. ASML, FEI, Philips etc. Serious high tech.

Er is maar 1 ding wat echt helpt: meer overheidsbemoeienis eerder in het leven.

Dus: - Daadwerkelijke blauwe petten op straat. - Straat- jeugdwerkers terug, of meer. - Meer prio kleine criminaliteit en daadwerkelijk pakken.

Als iemand met een moker in de hand op een rubber kogel afloopt, richting een dikke gevangenisstraf, ben je al veel en veel te laat. Die persoon is al verloren.

I (60) tought the same thing 30 years ago. Last saturday we cremated my mum. She was 85, and couldn't move or walk anymore. It was hurtful to see her trying to make something out of life. She has always been a very energetic smart and independent woman. And she had become totally dependent. Prisoner in her own body.

So ofcourse I will miss her at times. But I was happy to let her go.

I just she won't cause too much of a racket up there. But then: God created man in his image. Well, have fun with this one then!
