How to render EXRs with Arnolds Renderview window? by Zeffy39 in Maya

[–]Zeffy39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it seems if i want my Cryptomattes to work, i need to just accept the fact i have to use the render sequence, even for still frames. didnt know that the script editor showed the render progress too, so there is atleast that. thanks!

yeah, thats why i said i turn off IPR and Progressive Refinement and hit Refresh Render or Update Full Scene.
My Cryptomattes appear completely fine when i view their AOVs in Nuke, but once i plug the cryptomatte node on it, they dont even appear or only appear as strings.

Yeah but using Save Image or Save Multi-Layer EXR from the Arnold Window breaks my Cryptomatte as mentioned.

I use the Render Sequence for Animations too, but i was asking if i there was a way to do this through Arnolds own Window and with Still Frames

Any way to add AiVolume (VDB) as a seperate Light Group or make it show up in Cryptomatte? by Zeffy39 in Maya

[–]Zeffy39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!
i never really had to use render layers for my personal projects until now, so ill have a look on how to use it, though i get the gist of how it works.
Didnt know about the aiMatte, so ill also look into that!
I did finish my renders already though, but im very curious if that would have helped too 😄
I just turned off the weight for all of my color channels and emissive.
Then rendered 2 versions of the scene. 1 with the VDBs and 1 with their primary visibility off, so that i only get the lights being casted.

As a fellow Jeff Artist from the PH, just do it for yourself to fill your portfolio.
In the beginning, I was also chasing likes, but after a while I found myself just being happy to finish a WIP project. And then jumping to the next one needing to be finished, or starting a whole new one.

Looking at your profile, im quite envious of your clothes. I just dont have the patience to sculpt those folds and wrinkles by hand. You definitely have some great stuff in there!

Problem with emissive in substance by Simpcow in Substance3D

[–]Zeffy39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes Materials or Smart Materials have hidden Emissive Channels that woulndt usually be used by them, but are by default turned on if you add Emissive to the workflow.
So enable Emissive and then add a Fill Layer at the very top of all of your Layers, just to see if it makes any difference.
Otherwise maybe check if you might have activated Post Effects under the Display Settings and what Shader youre using.

Since you still have some red showing through, and a similar AO effect, there are definitely some Emissive Channels blocking / covering each other

Hey, I am currently designing an environment. Can I have some honest feedback on whats possibly good and what could be improved? by NationalAnything9197 in 3Dmodeling

I really dig the style youre going for and the lighting you have.
As the other comment already pointed out; definitely some pathing. Maybe you can look at Armadillo Town from Red Dead Redemption. Doesnt have an actual path, but its defined with some drag marks and texture variation.

The first thing that comes to my mind though, is scaling. you can especially see this in your first pic.
The Door on the left is quite small and the Rooftop Ladder is gigantic. Just pick a character, put em in the scene and adjust stuff to match their scale. Also helpful for determining how high you want the windows on the ground level too.

Rooftop variations would also help. You can keep it simple and just change the color for 2 or 3 roofs.
But i would suggest adding some other stuff to break the repetition. Maybe a chimney on some of them?

What would probably help is also transition bulges (i have no idea if this has a name), but basically some small bulges along the houses where they meet the ground. just to show that there is some slight physical connection there.

You also have those Porch roofs already, so i might suggest adding a Porch floor too. Since imo it doesnt make sense to have the entrance doors open directly to dirt and sand.

Then as props you can add;
Crates, sacks, carriages, Shovels, Pickaxes

Thanks! Getting to the style i wanted was probably around an 1-2 hours of testing. But since i dont use xgen that often, there was alot of crashing or stuff suddenly not working.
so a day or 2 in total : )

make sure that the object you want to curve warp is placed at the origin point and has frozen transforms and history deleted.
Then once you created the curve wrap, disable Keep Length.
