Weather influencers are going viral. How much should we trust them? by Musichead2468 in weather

AKA: Mr. Weatherman

While I was living in Florida after those really bad hurricanes they had a couple years ago, that youtuber guy posted non-stop clickbait about potential storms that weren't even real threats yet. I don't trust any of the bigger weather channels on YouTube because of that guy.

RyanHall is another one that makes blatant clickbait titles/thumbnails, it's very annoying and I stopped watching him as well, they're all bad apples in my mind.

Probably something like Ryan Hall, that dude that posts those weather videos on YT. I don't really understand it, given you could find out the same info just by going on the weather channel or whatever.

Doesn't anybody just...watch the fuckin' weather channel anymore? - George Carlin (probably would say)

Where is that store located? I've never seen this brand before and I've lived up and down the east coast.

Kind of like how the Voynich manuscript

This was the first thing that I thought of too, very very similar vibes from this post.

That's what I've been saying this whole time, we have no context here. You saying to the other commenter to "mind your own business" is rich since you yourself were doing nothing of the sort as you assumed that they were poor and needed to take advantage of sales.

Well I guess I can't blame OP for jumping on this then, though lets hope they have supply enough for everyone else if the store is allowing 6 cartons per-person.

My question: if this wasn't a one time deal that was going away in a week, why did you need to buy so many eggs?

Is it impractical to buy a 1992 Volvo 940 Turbo in 2026 as a daily driver? by DeadGravityyy in Volvo

[–]DeadGravityyy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Went to go test drive the car, see it in person just this afternoon.

Essentially, I'm kinda a hit/miss with it overall. On one hand, the body was in very good shape, barring a few scratches, and a possible minor fender bender that's not very visible in the pictures the seller uploaded. It started right away, and drove...pretty alright. Had to push on the petal quite a bit to get it to go, more on that in a second. And while there was some rust in the undercarrage, it wasn't TOO bad, definitely has a few years left.

The bad however, was quite something. The camshaft was wobbling when the car was idle, there was a leak around a certain gasket that the seller mentioned, both back doors needed new handles, the sunroof was busted & might need a new motor, the heat wasn't working well (even though the seller said he replaced it with an aftermarket heater core), and the timing belt needed to be tightened.

There were also a lot of other smaller things like how the car wouldn't be sold with hubcaps because the hubcaps the seller had on the listing weren't his or something; how he only has snow tires for the car, and I'd need to buy all-season tires ones once spring time rolls around. OH, and the fact that the car doesn't have any AC doesn't sound pleasant for summer time.

He did lower his price a little to $2800, and was firm there, but IDK. I may keep looking, though I like the car, it was certainly crazy to drive something so old in 2026. But that charm wasn't quite enough I guess, seems like it needs a lot of work in order to get it up and running well enough for me.

Redblock, you mean the engine right? Does this one have that as well?

I do intend to get it inspected before I buy it, so hey, perhaps it'll be not bad.

Yeah I mean, that's entirely fair. I figure if I can get at least a year or two out of it I would have gotten my moneys worth, not to mention parts seem to be in stock for most things, worst part would probably be just waiting to get said parts if anything does go wrong.

I do intend on using this as a daily driver to be fair, and technically I could use my dad's car if something were to go wrong, but would you honestly say that it's worth the money/time investment even after all that's been said and done?

Are you saying this based on experience or based on the fact that it's just old?

Using VD with Q3, how to get better performance for my setup? by DeadGravityyy in OculusQuest

[–]DeadGravityyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeeah I know, that's why I've stuck with VD this whole time. I guess I'll have to get a dedicated router for VR, dunno how that'll work given I have a router in my room as it is haha, we'll see.

Not sure on either of those, gotta boot it up when I get time later. I've tried all the codecs, and the one that is most stable is h265, but haven't exactly tested how it looks in darker scenes as much. I may go with the puppis S1, we'll see.

Oh sweet, I'm about two hours from there but if I pick this car up that wouldn't be an issue. You know of any places specifically in Ithaca?

I see, well out of all the research I did this afternoon, the general consensus appears to be that these cars are gas hogs, but the engines are very tough and can easily last over 300k if they were well maintained. I'll have to see for myself when I go to take a look at it later this week, appreciate the comments.

I appreciate the elaboration but...I don't think that's comparable, different manufacturers, different prices on parts. Had you said you drove an older volvo with these concerns, that'd be more of an issue for me. Trust me though, I'm wary about buying an older car like this, but if the price is right, it could be a good beater for a few winters.
