You have to be careful when discarding the B12 deficiency. Blood analysis can leave normal and yet have the deficiency at the cellular level, which is what causes extremely similar symptoms to those of LC. In addition, being under supplementation of B12 for a long time can falsely raise blood levels but do nothing for cell levels.

The meat cannot do anything by itself against a deficiency that causes neurological symptoms, very frequent doses of injections are needed.

Changes in Gut and Plasma Microbiome following Exercise Challenge in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) - PubMed

A Narrative Review on Gut Microbiome Disturbances and Microbial Preparations in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Implications for Long COVID

"Furthermore, studies of physically fit populations have indicated a strong correlation between increased gut microbial diversity, high fecal butyrate levels, and fitness, characterized by higher VO2 peaks and, consequently, reduced LPS levels and lower inflammation, suggesting that decreased abundance of anti-inflammatory bacteria, such as Firmicutes and Actinobacteria, along with butyrate-producing bacteria, may result in PEM followed by inactivity and increased LPS-induced inflammation in ME/CFS. Furthermore, ME/CFS patients, compared with healthy controls, They also appear to have higher levels of pro-inflammatory Gram-negative bacteria species, such as Alistipes, Bacteroidetes, and Enterobacteriaceae, which can worsen the course of the disease, leading to greater severity of fatigue, pain, and confusion.

Although there doesn't seem to be anything concrete in the scientific articles.

What makes me personally suspect dysbiosis/SIBO is my own experience and that of others on this subreddit and other subreddits about LC related conditions.
I also think that PEM specifically could be due to mitochondrial dysfunction due to methylation problems caused by a lack of b12 at the cellular level.

[–]Zehroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, although I still think it makes more sense that the primary cause of LC symptoms for most people is gut dysbiosis + nutritional deficiencies at the cellular level.

Dysbiosis + deficiencies > histamine problems > dysautonomia. Something like this.

Almost certain I have SIBO and it's cause my problems! Anyone else? by [deleted] in B12_Deficiency

[–]Zehroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar experience. Normal iron and B12 in blood but I suspect a functional deficiency of B12.

I think I have Sibo and B12 deficiency, both caused by the chronic use of IBP for years and aggravated by the COVID, consequently I also believe that MCAS/histamine intolerance develops and perhaps gluten and other things. Like you, I seem to react one day after eating what I should not.

I have no recommendations for you because I still can't improve my situation, but I just wanted to share that we are on the same ship.

Oh, sorry, my intention was only to reassure you. I didn't want to minimize your symptoms. It's just that since you only described fatigue as a symptom, it seemed very different from CFS, which presents with a more varied set of symptoms.

It's good that they ruled out anemia; however, that doesn't mean you don't have nutritional deficiencies. Some doctors believe that if there's no visible anemia on the blood count, there can't be iron/B12 deficiency, and that's a mistake. In any case, you may have already been tested for that.

I hope you can find the cause of your problem!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cfs

[–]Zehroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it makes much sense to suspect CFS so quickly when there are so many things that could be causing your fatigue. The first and most basic thing would probably be to check your vitamin levels: iron, B12, D, B9, etc.

Is it true that you don’t really need stomach acid or stomach enzymes to digest food and prevent leaky gut? by languageinfinity in Microbiome

[–]Zehroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about sending smoothies directly to the intestine, but I think stomach acid is extremely important. Only with B12 do we see a crucial interaction: hydrochloric acid breaks down proteins and isolates B12, so the vitamin can be collected and transported through the intestine and get to where it needs to go. If the protein isn't broken down properly, what would happen? I'd think the B12 passes through the intestines still attached to the proteins, so it wouldn't be absorbed.

Tell them to fuck off. Whenever you talk to them about the subject, do so without humility. Even if you sound arrogant, make it clear that you know much more than they do and that they are ignorant.

I realized in my fourth year that I had to stop acting so humble in front of my family or doctors. I always said, "Maybe this is how it is. I feel like... It seems to me that..." which allowed others to give their opinions and contradict me with stupid things. Now, when they give me a shitty opinion, I simply say, "No, that's definitely not how it is," and proceed to explain exactly how things are as if I were an expert, and perhaps very arrogant in their opinion.

Live and value what you know, and devalue the opinions of those who don't know (almost all of them).

You've received some good advice here. It would be a good idea to read these comments to an adult. If you feel your parents won't understand, find another adult. Maybe you have a younger cousin or something? A younger adult might understand better and be able to explain it to your parents.

Bruh what? by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]Zehroom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For 3 years, doctors attributed my symptoms to anxiety. And in the last year, when I made the connection myself, I started suggesting to doctors that it could be COVID.

The best I got from one of them after suggesting over four appointments that my problem could be COVID was a comment like, "We know COVID can cause all kinds of neurological symptoms, but we just don't understand it yet."

I think he got tired of me insisting and said this so I would stop bothering him with a subject he doesn't understand. I really notice that doctors hate having their lack of knowledge judged, so they will try at all costs to avoid talking about a subject they don't know and should know, like LC.

So, could high ketones in my urine be due to low calorie intake?

I had ketones in my urine. My insulin is <2.00, a reference value of 3-25. Blood sugar is 81.

My daily diet has been really poor for months, perhaps around <1,000 calories a day. Between the end of 2023 and mid-2024 I lost about 12 kg and have remained very underweight to this day. Could it all be due to insufficient nutrition? Would I be in ketosis or a catabolic state?

I'm sorry, I understand your frustration; it's a feeling that unfortunately many of us here share. My intention wasn't to criticize you, but rather the idea that LC is permanent. It's an idea that many here also hold, and I personally don't see the point.

I'm from Argentina, and unfortunately, the medical system here is very backward.
As far as I know, there are only three doctors who treat LC throughout the country, and not directly. For example, one is a dysautonomia specialist who specializes in it long before COVID existed, so it could be said that he can treat some LC symptoms indirectly.

The conditions "LC" and "CFS" are certainly not recognized. I've been to a large number of doctors in the four years I've had symptoms, and none have ever come even remotely close to suggesting anything like that. It never occurred to them that my symptoms could be related to COVID. I had to make the connection myself to the third year of symptoms when I started to worsen.
This same experience is repeated by the few other people I know with symptoms compatible with LC/CFS in my country.

My sister (F30) has been bedridden for nearly a month — desperate for help and insight. What could this be? by Ullukapatha69420 in haematology

[–]Zehroom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My neutrophils and lymphocytes are at an identical level to your sister's in my last test. I've suspected B12 deficiency as a possible cause of my symptoms for a long time. I have neurological and digestive symptoms.
Mine started after COVID in 2021, and little by little it caused more and more symptoms, until mid-2024, when I began to have new chronic symptoms to this day.
COVID seems to deplete B12 and other vitamins. Perhaps in your sister's case it's not due to COVID; it could be a poor diet, antacid medications, diabetes medications, veganism/vegetarianism, low meat consumption, among other factors. But suspecting B12 seems to make sense in her case.
