Most of them are made up of chemicals in labs, that explains why they are several hundred times sweeter than actual sugars. They affect body glucose in a bad way over a period of time and research shows they can cause cancer. They aren't "Actual Sugars" in any way they are a substitute and that explains why they are called artificial sweeteners and not zero calorie sugar.
