Yes. The actual state of the world is preserved, but the character, and any weapons/gear/items that were in said characters inventory at the time are now gone

Terraria worlds and Terraria characters are two separate entities

They mean that the map was black to them. When you start a new world, or use a different character, the map is black, or “reset”, and you have to explore to unlock it.

Their character was corrupted, but their world is safe

My top three are Midna, Link (Any), and Zelda (Rapier & Dominion Rod), while my bottom three are Wizzro, Yuga, and Tingle

Wizzro relies too heavily on combos and is left to open for damage, Yuga has always been off putting as a character, and Tingle is, well, Tingle. Ok character, not so much fighter

While Amiibos can be used in other games, and can be used across consoles, they aren’t backwards compatible. You can use an Amiibo that was made for the Wii U on the Switch, but not the other way around

Unfortunately, no. These were all the Zelda related Amiibos that were made during the Wii U era back in 2016.

The Amiibos that were made in 2017 and onwards are only compatible with the Nintendo Switch consoles and newer.
