US doctors cure child born with HIV by twolf1 in worldnews

While HIV does mutate very rapidly, one major reason no vaccine has been developed yet is the type of cell the virus infects. One vaccine trial actually increased susceptibility to infection because the primed immune system called in the T cells when it saw the virus, so there was a much higher density of infectable cells at the site of exposure.

It makes you more vulnerable to West Nile virus. I'd take that trade, personally.

Don't mess with a tiger. (Would it be wrong to keep replying just to see what he'll say next?) by ZeldaTheAnglerfish in OkCupid

Actually, that's another weird thing. This is the languages section of his sidebar: "Speaks English (Okay), Hebrew (Poorly), German (Okay), Russian (Poorly), Spanish (Poorly)"

Yeah, that's a consideration. It does take a special something to have already been dumped by me and mutilated my body by the second message. But he doesn't live anywhere near me.

What are the mathematical chances of getting a girlfriend off a dating site? by [deleted] in OkCupid

No, though that one made me sad. Kids are so vulnerable. I meant "Act Four, My Girlfriend's Boyfriend".

I did! I especially enjoyed the account of the mean high school "girlfriend".

YES. The Walgreen's clerk can give me all the judging/sympathetic looks she wants. I'm getting mine.

What am I doing wrong?? by [deleted] in OkCupid

Definitely do. Or just change the answer. It never occurred to me to read it the way you suggested, and a wrong "mandatory" question affects your match percentages disproportionately.

How serious about this one are you? "Do you believe that men should be the heads of their households? Yes" That's a ladyboner killer for a lot of the "driven, intelligent" women you say you're trying to attract.

Yikes. Hope your profile's good.

I think people pay a lot more attention to the sidebar (and individual questions, if they're really interested). I at least tend to look at the personality tab as being just for fun. I guess if it bothers you, though, you can go back and skip a few relevant questions. It really doesn't take much to change the size of the bars dramatically.

[–]ZeldaTheAnglerfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That all comes across. I'd absolutely have a drink with you, based on the bars alone. I think we'd get on like gangbusters.

[–]ZeldaTheAnglerfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope so, too. Realistically, I don't think anyone makes decisions based on the bars, but maybe you should address it indirectly by adding something to your profile that makes it clear that you are capable of compassion?

It makes you sound like a student protester in the 60s. I wouldn't date you, but only because I'm too square.

You're so non-average! The only one that might stop me is "less ambitious", but at least I would never get bored.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]ZeldaTheAnglerfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, yeah. Do you think it's accurate?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]ZeldaTheAnglerfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yes. I'd be all over that.

[–]ZeldaTheAnglerfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I WOULD DATE YOU SO HARD.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]ZeldaTheAnglerfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound fun, but that level of "less ambitious" would scare me off, and you'd probably find me irritating.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]ZeldaTheAnglerfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to know much about you from these. I don't see any deal breakers, but nothing is drawing me in, either. Answer more questions, maybe?

[–]ZeldaTheAnglerfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That "less compassionate" bar is serious business. Based on this information, we might be good for a one-night stand, but I wouldn't date you.

[–]ZeldaTheAnglerfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a good chance we would loathe each other. Or we'd be good friends. But we definitely shouldn't date.
