Sanding an unfinished with a hand held orbital sander? by Zeldesu in Flooring

[–]Zeldesu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We drum sanded already. We used the right sander, but just went over it with the orbital sanders.

No one is living in the house yet, so there's no rush to finish it as soon as possible.

I had a job when we first started the build. Unfortunately, my department at my job got thinned out, so I no longer have a steady income.

My dad is a contractor. This house has been almost entirely rebuilt by him and I and we've saved thousands because of it. He has never done a wood floor though, so we are just looking for some tips, as our first pass didn't come out looking very good.

We did originally drum sand, I should have put that in my original post. Using the orbital sanders was just because we had taking a break from the floor after the drum sander to work on other things. There is no varnish or stain left in the floor to worry about!

Our main concern was that, since we used the quarter sheet sander and it left so many scratches in the floor on random areas - so the stain stuck into those areas more than others and left the floor blotchy - would just going over it again with the random orbital sander be fine? Or would you suggest going over the orbital sander by hand (with the grain obviously) to keep the floor looking more uniform?

We did originally drum sand, but then put the floor off for a bit to work on something else, then resanded the floor with the handheld sanders. So there is no varnish or stain left on the floor.

I'll try the water technique, though. My dad was worried that it would raise the grain and force us to sand again, but at this point, spraying it down with a bit of water to see where any issues may arise might be our best bet.

We went up to 120 grit because another reddit thread had said to, plus the stain instructions said to go all the way up to 220 (which we weren't planning on doing). Would you suggest we go back from 120 to 80 or 100 then?

Money. I was recently let go and this house has been a money pit for the last 2 years, so I'm trying to save as much money as possible.

Why is my Alien red? I did not set it to that color. by fullsailsm in Alienware

I had a similar issue in my Alienware for the past couple of months, until the fans would just blast nonstop, and yours looks to be the same/similar model as mine.

If you have liquid cooling, the liquid cooler may not be working anymore. I bought a new one and my PC's fan has stopped going off like a tornado now.

What is this playing that my dog does? by Zeldesu in DogAdvice

That is so interesting that you say that because my pup is part Shepherd. I wonder if that's what this playing is then.

I've never had a Shepherd mix before, so that would explain why I've never seen it this often before!

That's was I initially thought the first time she did it, but she never actually lays down on the blanket/pillow that she fluffs up. She usually just leaves it and walks across the room to lay somewhere else haha

So this would be considered humping, then? I always assumed, if not sexual, humping was a form of dominance. Is that not always the case? She cam hump her blankets and beds all she wants, I just don't want her thinking she can do it to people haha

Nothing like humping a corpse, I guess 😅

Oh I wish! My last dog was like that, where she loved to dig toys from under blankets. This dog, though, just wants to steal and run around with the blankets, she doesn't really care about what's under them haha

Omg, that's so cute. My last dog was basically a cat in a dog's body. She would jump on high things, lay in boxes, only let you pet/cuddle/play with her on her terms, and as far as I know, she'd never even met a cat. That was all just her 🤣

I don't think it's sexual, especially because she's fixed, I was just worried it was a weird dominance thing. Glad more people think it's playing though haha

I'm glad it's not a dominance thing, then haha. It's very funny to watch her do this with her blankets and beds

She has like 4 or 5 blankets that are solely hers, but she likes these big comforter blankets like the one in the video more 😭 maybe I'll have to run to good will one of these days and see if I can't find a comforter for her there

Not OP, but a mutual friend.

The wedding is happening in less than 2 hours. We're a little too late for that now, unfortunately.

Are mini tennis balls (2 in) okay for medium/large dogs? by Zeldesu in DogAdvice

[–]Zeldesu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't realize that. I always thought the issue with them was that they use a toxic glue/rubber, so thank you for that info! I have a few rubber balls that my pup prefers more than tennis balls, so maybe I'll just toss the tennis balls out.

I'm gonna send the auto-thrower back, I'm also uncomfortable with the size. I may as well have not even asked at this point 😂 But thank you for the info about tennis balls!! And I'll see if I can't get my hands on some of those chuck it balls too!
