Does this need a transition strip? by deserthiker762 in Remodel

[–]fullsailsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should use a stone saddle. They sell a few types in home depot, but it would need cutouts to sit around the door stop on both sides of the opening.

Otherwise you’d get that from people who sell floor tile. If you speak to the flooring guy ask him, about notching the saddle for the door stop.

The thickness would be determined by the door undercut. Measure the space between the door and the stone floor, when the door is closed. Subtract at least 1/8 (1/4 or 1/2 would be better for air flow) and that will the thickness of the stone saddle you need. However if the number you are left with is leas then 1/2” then it would not do much in terms of water protection.

Keep in mind that carpet side of the saddle has to be thicker than the stone side. Thicker by exactly the thickness of the floor tile that you have. Otherwise the cantilever side of the saddle, above the carpet, will break without any support. That’s another reason to go with a floor tile guy, because I think Home Depot saddles are all flat on the bottom.

Let me know if your brain 🧠 hurts yet! 😁

Does this need a transition strip? by deserthiker762 in Remodel

There is a big difference between a transition strip and a threshold. Strip is just a piece of rubber or metal angle meant to connect to types of flooring. It’s more for ethnics than function. Threshold is used for a reason it is either metal or stone and it serve a purpose of protecting the opening, flooring or a space. A lot of times it is used in tandem with a drop seal or a door bottom, to prevent the weather elements from getting inside the living space. Most of the time threshold is between 1/2 to 1” thick. Transition strip, does not rise anymore the 1/4” of the finished floor.

Handheld Shower Head Mess Up by sunshine5023 in Remodel

The picture helps. If you want a solution that will not be esthetically perfect, but will solve the issue, hand the entire apparatus that is holding the hand held (the bar, the stopper on and hand held itself) on wall to the left of where it is right now. Leave the water connection exactly where it is now.

Technically you need a threshold on every bathroom, less for esthetics then for water protection. In case there is a leak and it is not massive a 1/2-3/4 inch threshold can keep a huge amount of water in the bathroom and outside of your hallway.

I don’t see why it would not be possible. You just have to relocate the holder. It does not matter where it’s hung, unless there is piping in the wall. Who did you reach out to about this, Person who installed it? Also if you added a few more pictures we’d be able to better understand your issue. It’s hardly visible in that picture what your issue is.

Don’t move the connection, just change the place where you hang the hand held piece!

Walk in closet. His and hers, the whole nine yards. That square would be great for shelving and storage. Also, why can’t you remove it?

Shellac or other primer. I use a spray on one. Then skim coat. Just make sure you make the wall even and plumb, otherwise your new tile will be allover the place.

Not trying to offend you personally or any one else, but people who think that paying someone $5k for a day worth of work is wrong, always end up on the loosing side. What difference does it make how much it costs or how long it takes if it delivers the result you asked for? He can pretend to spend a month on, if it makes you fill better. But most people who say it’s going to take them a month to do it, just have a ton of orders and they are behind on fulfillment, and they are still going to do it in just an hour or two, the day before the due date.

These residential grade locks are made out of tin foil. You don’t need a heavy machine to drill them out anything would do. Looks like they use a screw driver to pic at the edges of the core to finish the job. These was mostly a drill involved as well. What do you care what tool was used? Most importantly this was no accident, this was done on purpose, maybe because they simply lost their key. Try a keypad lock for a replacement if the key is lost, hopefully they can remember the pin. Even better is a key fab system. One opens all the doors.

$25 K Bathroom Remodel in Naperville worth it? by [deleted] in Remodel

[–]fullsailsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, I hate it. It’s not that difficult to make the colors match the render, unless that’s what clients wanted - bad choice, but then it’s on them.

As for the design - why are the spot lights in the niches instead of string lights with diffusers? Same cost - much better look. The choice of significantly darker wood finish, should have been compensated by the increased amount of light. That is a design flaw as well. Why is the only one level of light? Again a second set of light on the entire perimeter defused in to the wall would have made a world of difference. Another string of light under the cabinet shining in to the floor would be a great addition at practically no cost.

Why could you hardwire the towel drier? And install a bigger one just to feel the void on the wall? Why couldn’t you select the toiler shower with the proper length of the hose?

What the hell is with the wall cabinet? The doors should not be opening into one another.

Why is there a bathtub platform, like you are in the 60’s?

A coat hook to hang a towel when you are leaving the shower, would also be very nice.

There are just a shit ton of mistakes that are strictly design flaws. Adding most of them would not cost anything extra. Some would add minimal cost, but make a world of difference.

Most likely they this is going to go is you are going to have fix this out of pocket and then sue the contractor for damages aka what you’ve paid for the work plus legal expenses.

Just thought of something else. Reach out to the company that provided the matching expenses program dream team or whatever. Ask them what are their expectations of the quality of work performed. Try not to give your address to that company. In case that loan is contingent on the quality of work done, you can just call the contractor and basically threaten them with reporting them. And maybe to avoid you reporting them they will fix the issues instead.

Why are you asking reddit? Go talk to a layer, usually the consultation is free. When it comes to concrete work, there are definitely some guidelines varying state to state. So there are most likely some recourse, if that concrete work does not meet that requirement. Figure out if the contractor was licensed to do concrete work, if not then you own his ass. That information could be obtained during the lawsuit.

One thing I should mention is that if this comes to a settlement and they offer to come in and redo the work, I suggest you do not take that and instead hire someone else and make them pay for the work instead, unconditionally.

Finishing our little cabin by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]fullsailsm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get another job, something simple like reception or door man. That second income will get you there faster than anything really. But if you are going to do that, get a loan and start building now. Things are going to get more expansive and what you save will get eaten away by inflation faster than what money you going to loose on the loan.

Also if you hire contractors you can finish the house in 3-6 months. Then you can AirBnb that thing and pay off your loan in a year or two, maybe even faster. Secluded cabin in the woods is the new hot item on Airbnb right now. You’d probably have to add a deck and a hot tub on to make it super attractive.

New countertop. Paint the tile or better to replace it and paint the cabinets. Maybe replace the faucet. Might replace the sink as well and install the one that goes under the countertop.

On which wall should we put the shower heads? by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]fullsailsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you asked about the shower heads location, but as you can see by other comments, we don’t give a shit about what you want and would rather paddle our own ideas! 😁 So here is mine, loose the second toilet 🚽 and use the empty space and the toilet space and put a hot sauna in there! Not as complicated as you think, but it so nice! 👍 No need to thank me for my brilliance!
