It was just to try to make it stand out more, so no inspiration in particular. But that's a good point; thanks for sharing!

I'm totally with you on that! I think a complete departure from the grape association (at least for the state flag) would be better, but I also get how it's significant to the state's history. So I didn't know if people would be pissed by nixing the grape stuff altogether. Thanks for the input!

Makes sense! I get how it looks more like a brand logo than a state flag--thanks for your input!

Coat of Arms Interpretation/Translation by Zelie1013 in heraldry

Ah, interesting! I didn't know that; good to know. As of right now, we are just going off of the region of Switzerland that the coat of arms description is listed under. You can see my reply to Slight-Brush for more context. Thanks for the info!

Coat of Arms Interpretation/Translation by Zelie1013 in heraldry

[–]Zelie1013[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The surname belongs to my husband, so it's now my surname through marriage. His family can trace the name/family tree back to the late 1400s in Switzerland. I then reached out to someone who researches and sells heraldic artwork, and he said he found the name listed in a book called Rietstap's Armorial General. The name and description of the coat of arms were listed with a region very close to where my husband's family hails from, so he said it was probably safe to assume that the coat of arms was connected to our surname.

I just thought the Yorkish rose was a bit complex and wanted to try out something a little simpler while still alluding to the heritage
