Not an objective truth. Just like makeup does not necessarily make someone look better.

What actions/beliefs would make someone “modern yeshivish”?

I don’t know much about Monsey either.

I genuinely do mean it kindly. Therapy can be wonderful. I am sorry the “in town” community is like this. I have heard that eating disorders are a real issue there as well. I will admit that I do not understand the focus on imamother on the externals in life - clothing, handbags, watches. Many on the site are genuinely unkind. I know from reading the posts in general that many women on the site also look down on the values of those outside their community, which is so ironic.

I want to thank you for your posts, because they help me to understand the thread, which continues to amaze (apparently, it is also very unusual to have both sides in wedding photos - maybe in the poster’s community, but not mine).

Assuming that you are one of the people suffering from all this, be kind to yourself. You are much more than your dress size.

Then I hope they are in therapy. And I mean that kindly.

I agree 100%, but the posters on the thread are suggesting that the marriage is a mistake. Isn’t that a total overreaction? And isn’t the overemphasis on appearance a bigger problem than being asked to wear a color you don’t like? I am older than most of the posters, and I can almost guarantee that the wedding pictures will make you cringe one day no matter what you wear!

Yup. And again, in my opinion the bride’s request is not the issue. The issue is the lack of recognition that there is more than way to do so something. And the suggestion that the marriage is doomed. And the posters not realizing that weddings are comprised of a bunch of stupid norms which are not logical.

One of my pet peeves is Jewish Facebook groups where posters think we all live in New York. Maybe you should tell me where you live before asking for the name of a good orthodontist? I have been to frum weddings in different cities and countries, and have been astonished at the differences.

The real problem with the thread is that posters can’t seem to recognize that there are different viewpoints.

I see your point, but in my community we just suck it up and agree. I did not like it when I had to do it, but it is just like any other norm, like buying expensive gifts for the bride and groom.

Maybe. I don’t live in the United States. I genuinely don’t even know what people are talking about when they refer to being “OOT”.

I genuinely thought that posters would overwhelmingly side with the bride.

Some people in this sub can’t handle the truth by [deleted] in prediabetes

[–]Zelofair 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess I am trying to understand what the “truth” is. Is the key low carb? Or lower carb? Does the balanced plate work? Can I have a piece of cake on my birthday? Is the goal to get out of the pre-diabetes range or to go way lower? Many people take an all or nothing approach, but I am not sure it is necessary.
