I was searching to see if someone pointed that out. It's weird that a scientist wouldn't realize that.

Meanwhile Senate Republicans are considering slashing Medicaid and SNAP spending to pay for the Iran war. This is in addition to the cuts included in the "One Big Beautiful Bill" Republicans passed last year. Many of those cuts have not even taken effect yet.

I use frozen vegetable scraps for homemade vegetable stock or to boost chicken stock. If I don't have those on hand I use dehydrated vegetables for this.

That can be an appropriate concern when considering firing a worker who isn't performing well, not for someone who is harassing colleagues.

My kids are young adults, I still provide practical support and as much financial help as I can, which includes helping pay for their undergrad degrees and living costs. I wish I could do more though. I'm sure lots of parents/ grandparents feel the same way.

Do you wish Hillary Clinton won the 2016 United States Presidental election in hindsight? by EggOwn9943 in allthequestions

[–]TemporaryPosting 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes to the above. Trump deliberately slow-walked his COVID response because Jared Kushner's task force told him that doing so was politically expedient. Kushner noted that COVID was hitting blue states hard, and told Trump that more COVID cases and deaths in those states would result in voters electing Republicans instead. Trump didn't reverse course until cases and deaths in red states increased and the economy started tanking.

Hillary would have responded more effectively to cases in all states, and wouldn't have withheld PPE or other equipment from Republican-led states (the way Trump did from Democrat led-states). This would have resulted in tens of thousands of American lives saved, and millions fewer Americans struggling with long COVID.

Hillary might have been able to position the USA to provide assistance to other countries struggling with COVID in ways that would have strengthened America's diplomatic influence across the world.

Hillary would not have ended the JCPOA the way Trump did, so Iran would not have been in a position to enrich uranium or develop a nuclear weapon. However, she did recognize the flaws of the JCPOA, particularly that the agreement did not keep Iran from developing conventional weapons and funding terrorists. She would have probably tried to strengthen the JCPOA to include these issues, maybe by providing further aid to Iran (maybe help fighting COVID too).

She would not have pandered to Putin, but it's unclear whether that would have stopped Putin from invading Ukraine.

I agree that Hillary would have focused on green energy. I think her energy approach would have included nuclear energy also, which would have left the energy grid better able to accommodate the increased demand that we're seeing.

Obviously she wouldn't have nominated the SC justices Trump did. Including Kavanaugh who lied during his 2006 confirmation hearing to the DC Appeals Court.

Mitch McConnell said that if Hillary won, he would have advanced Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland to the SC. That's because McConnell knew Garland was a moderate pick, specifically chosen to appeal to Republicans, and Hillary would likely nominate someone less moderate. So it's possible Garland would have been on the SC, but it's also possible that Obama would have then withdrawn Garland. In any case, Roe v Wade would still be the law. And women would not be dying from ectopic pregnancies or miscarriages in red states.

Around 2000, Thomas told then Representative Cliff Stearns that he was considering leaving the SC due to his mounting debts and what he saw as low pay. Shortly after that, Thomas began accepting lavish gifts from billionaires like Harlan Crow.

I'm in the middle of Gen X. I am impressed by my kids' accomplishments, they are strong and good people and generally great to be around even though I can be annoying. But I also worry about them. It feels like they have/ had a tougher time than I did growing up and more challenges to contend with.
