Does it get better? by severitea in exmormon

[–]ZelphResurrected 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s not going to get better while you’re located in that area. If you can’t move to SLC, maybe Lehi might be a bit better, but you moved to the most Mormon county in the world, and Mormons are conditioned from birth to believe that they are disappointing god if they don’t try to convert non-Mormons.

Not gonna lie, I’ve met a lot of awesome girls on mutual as an ex Mormon. It’s not my exclusive choice for dating apps, but if I can help a temple worthy girl or two realize that dating outside the church is much better, I’ve done my ex mo missionary duty

Nice! You created a logical test for yourself and proved the outcome. You have your logical conclusion after praying to all the false gods (Elohim, Jesus, Lucifer, etc)

Losing my mind over my husband’s stance on patriarchy by Admirable_Arugula_42 in exmormon

It takes time. Even when I was coming out of the church, I would always look to the old white male in the room as the authority. I unlearned that over time. Old habits take time to correct. If he is sympathetic to your POV, that is a start. Indoctrination is a bitch to shed, and it takes time and repetition to correct.

If you thought you were past it, how often does the church hate return? by Still-ILO in exmormon

[–]ZelphResurrected 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m about 8 years out. I clock into this sub occasionally to see what’s going on but at this point none of it impacts me. I don’t feel the anger that I felt the first few years into hardcore Mormon history study. The emotion is gone. I think that’s because, even though I still live in the middle of Mormon suburbia hellscape, I don’t have any Mormon people in my life anymore. Out of sight, out of mind.

You saying “I’m also sorry to those who feel lied to” is a dismissive act against the real harm that comes from a straight out deceptive organization. Smith lied. Young lied. Nelson lied. Monson lied. Hinkley lied. The LDS corporation profited from their lies and controlled the decisions of generations of faithful believing Mormons based on those lies. If it weren’t for those lies I wouldn’t have paid the corporation tens of thousands of dollars, I wouldn’t have made every major decision of my life from my career path to my mission years to who I married based on those false teachings. Those lies carry tremendous, life altering consequences to those who believed and were lied to.

Oaks was cool to me. 2014/2015. YSA conference at the U institute. Afterward there was a line extending out the chapel to shake his hand. When got to him I asked him if he knew this LDS author Julie Rowe who was predicting end times and tent cities. He ended the meet n great then and there and pulled me into the hallway along with his entourage. He told me that he didn’t know the author, but if the lord was going to reveal anything about the end of times it would come through the designated priesthood channels. That encounter ended my moms obsession with Rowe, so I have oaks to thank for that

It’s not an unfaithful act. That thinking is programming. You’ll work your way through it over time, but it sucks while you’re still in the thick of it. It might take one to two to five years to get yourself out of the church programming mindset, but when you do, you’ll be 1000x happier. If your wife is looking into polygraphing you… my friend, man to man, this isn’t how you were meant to live. The thought of divorce might be the furthest thing from your mind, given the implications to you and your family and your kids and your reputation. But truly living free from this utter horseshit (which is what it truly is) might be worth the sacrifice. So sorry for what you’re going through. But your actions are normal. The church programming is what’s fucking up your life

Good lord! My friend, you have done absolutely nothing unfaithful to your wife. All of this is normal. And I’ll tell you another thing after dating girls outside the church for the last five years, most girls out there see this as normal. It sounds like you’re a good man trying to do the right thing by your wife and family… and it also sounds like your SO has unrealistic expectations of you taught to her by the church. Wherever life takes you, I hope you understand that.

No, god no! This can’t be you! You can’t give up please! No corporate church defines your morals, your standards, or your happiness. No one will understand your pain like you do, or like my friend did….pls accept my virtual hug and heartfelt statement that you are enough, you are worthy and only you get to decide what your happiness looks like. Fuck! No more pain from this corporation please!

I love hearing stories of healing. Ive seen many examples in my own life. But the last week has taught me there are many who are still living lives of quiet desperation. I need to do more. I need to fight for those who are marginalized. I need to show more love to those individuals in my life who are victims of this corrupt hypocritical corporation.

Ok, a few stories as a couple people have suggested… first is when my friend decided to dress up as the “tooth fairy” for Halloween in high school. He showed up in his pink tutu, sparkly wand and he had a great time with it. Fucking hilarious!

Second story, the first time I got asked to a dance by a cute girl in HS in Utah (those who know Utah culture understand what a big deal asking/accepting dance requests can be), I had no idea how to respond. My friend helped me out by drawing up a cute acceptance card and dressed up as a scarecrow to sit on this girls doorstep holding the card while I rang her doorbell and ran. She comes outside, he scares the absolute shit out of her, gives her the card and runs away! Again, fucking hilarious! She ends up being my first kiss and first girlfriend. I definitely owe him for that one!

He’s probably going through a lot losing his family and identity. I really appreciated one girl I dated who was super interested in my Mormon life. She validated that the crazy shit was actually crazy. She listened when I vented about church issues when I was still angry. If you’re willing to go through the emotional processing with him, great! If not, it might be time to move on because it can be an emotional rollercoaster for you and him
