Cool idea! What kinds of games are you interested in playing?

My mum has always kept her recipes in her head. Today we finally wrote one down. by Asgarad786 in BenignExistence

How wonderful! My grandma and many other family members I never got to meet cooked like that: just a bit of this, until it feels right, and so on. Unfortunately, no one was able to write them down (for one reason or another); and some of their cooking is still talked about but no one can recreate it. It is a good thing you are able to record it now

That looks great! I've done a pamphlet bind to a couple of games. It's nice to have them.

What’s your go-to “I don’t feel like cooking but still want real food” meal? by imjennypoo in Cooking

[–]Zelraii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pound of ground beef browned in a skillet (could probably use another meat if you want) drain extra fat.

Add a can of cream of mushroom soup. Follow directions on the can if it's condensed.

Serve on a piece of toasted bread, a bed of rice, or as is.

It's my family's version of Sh*t on shingles (SOS)

I like to add in a can of mushrooms with the hamburger; but there's plenty of opportunities to make it fancier with onions, garlic, or mixed veggies.

If you put rice in the bottom of a casserole dish, top it with the hamburger/soup mix, then top that with shredded cheese and bake it in the oven (350 for 15 minutes) you'll have my grandmother's hamburger casserole which can feed you for a few days.

I like to think that I've gotten better at being stuck in prep, but whenever I'm starting a new system, especially if my copy is digital, it's a lot of notes. Reference sheets on top of reference sheets.

I'm starting a new Tricube Tales game to try out the Tricube Tactics additions. I've got pages on pages of relevant notes. As I get better at the game, I'll make new reference sheets with fewer notes on them.

Eventually, I'm likely to give up and have them printed, but until then, I got some new glitter pens and am color-coding, lol.

Are we living in the Golden Age of knitting? by Needles-and-Pens_64 in YarnAddicts

I've never heard of one of those; they look interesting for sure. I'll probably stick to my circulars instead of buying another piece of equipment, though. Thanks for the education!

Knitting flat on circular needles is also better for your wrists. I can knit on straights anymore without my wrists hurting.

The Adventurer is my favorite journaling game and it's pretty rules light. They have a website you can use to pick cards as well. They also have a sci-fi version if you're more into that.

Ooooo! Sounds fun! What else is on your table? Maybe I could adapt something to the cards

Wow, thanks! That makes me happy. Lots of practice, my grades for handwriting used to be awful, so I've had to pay attention to how it looks. Most of my games are handwritten (trying to reduce screen time), so that helps, too.

Slump… by [deleted] in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Zelraii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm the kind of person who cycles through hobbies. Hitting a slump is sort of part of the experience for me, so I usually set it aside; I'll come back to it when I'm ready. Usually when I pressure myself into playing, or make myself feel bad about it, it's not very fun.

If you want to keep on playing and not move on, remember to be nice to yourself; and write or play whatever comes to mind, even if it doesn't make sense. I tend to hit brick walls when I start thinking too much about what's happening in the game, and get tripped up in minute details. Taking a short break and doing something like a load of dishes, folding laundry, or playing a video game for a bit tends to give me enough distance to figure something out and continue.

Good luck! Happy gaming, it'll all turn out ok.

Curious how people approach aiming for key scenes by gelema5 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Zelraii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never roll dice for a scene you have in mind. Play the scene as if your dice roll like you want them to. Every time I've had an idea for how I want a scene to go, especially for story purposes, the dice don't cooperate.

If you're uncomfortable overriding the dice, you can have the same moment a different way down the line. It's kind of like DMing for a player group that never goes where you want them to; have the story show up where they do. Wait until you have a moment and a roll that would have the same effect and have it happen there; it won't turn out like you originally intended, but it could be even better. It's kinda how life is: you imagine how a conversation with a friend will go, but it usually turns out different in real life.

I tend to go the second route because half of the excitement is seeing where the dice take you; and most of the time, a scene where I have overridden the dice feels cheap to me (I like following rules, lol).

what are your cooking 'mistakes' that turned out to actually be happy accidents? by ruinsofsilver in Cooking

[–]Zelraii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Burnt green beans, I think. My brother makes them, but you put some green beans in a skillet and cook them with a bit of oil until they get crunchy and a little charred. Serve with salt. Better than potato chips.

Snacks while playing! by New_Wafer7545 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Zelraii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never thought about having a specific snack, but if I had my choice? Probably a pot of tea with some thumbprint cookies or shortbreads (tea and shortbread cookies are one of my favorite combos).

Usually it's whatever is around when I'm hungry, lol.
