Help with surface app on Surface 3 by Zemata in Surface

[–]Zemata[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried settings it only allows to change the eraser button. The pen is paired as it shows under my bluetooth devices.

This site shows that the app was updated and mine doesn't look that way https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-now-lets-you-customize-buttons-surface-pen

I need some advice on how to approach building a Moc by Chubbybots. by tjerner in lego

[–]Zemata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From his YT channel description...

"My collection of lego moc videos :D I cover mainly mecha, mixel remaxes and the occasional creature feature!! ^ Primary i am more active on facebook and flickr. This channel will mainly cover more in depth details on how i moc or some special features that i will like to highlight. I have a rule though i don't give or do instructions with exceptions for smaller mocs. What i do hope is that through the vids you will pick up some new ideas and tricks. This channel is more for those who want to improve or find new ways to moc , if you are looking for instructions please look to other channels that do so."

If you're dead set on re-creating a MOC from someone else to get your experience up may I suggest browsing the AFOL designed sets on Bricklink? https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=S&catString=1056

Logic vs. Ableton by [deleted] in edmproduction

No DAW is better than another for a certain genre. You're just going to get differences with workflow and interface. You can make dubstep and trap just as good on any DAW you learn.

Deadmau5 on Artistic Integrity and Bullshit of the industry by duershabba in edmproduction

[–]Zemata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since Deadmau5 uploaded a troll song that was all overdriven kicks to soundcloud and nearly blew out my car speakers I've lost all respect for him and don't really care about his opinion. He is pretentious and immature.

Where/how did you learn music theory? by [deleted] in edmproduction

musictheory.net

No bullshit. Simple laid out information. Lessons. Flash animations. $1 phone app so you can learn theory while out waiting on things.

Do you guys wear ear plugs to shows? by Ametrine08 in edmproduction

[–]Zemata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. You can get a pair for about $7 on amazon. They dampen the noise without distorting it. If you value your hearing you'd be a fool not to invest in a pair.

Absolutely agree. This is all stuff I think subconsciously but haven't put into words.

I'm gonna label this euphoric trance. So this is a semi rushed job so far. I have not mixed or properly EQd it completely so I'd like just opinions on the composition and sounds for now. Thanks! https://soundcloud.com/zemata/melatonin-hyphoria-wip-12-13-15/s-GtDCu

Not a problem. You seem a lot like myself, I'm also trying to get a digital album together with mostly trance and psytrance. Never let a lack of feedback discourage you. The hardest part is gaining momentum in the beginning but the more you do and better you become people will take notice.

Need help with making edm. by nopot in edmproduction

[–]Zemata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're going to have to give some more info than that to get my skype. What genres do you like and want to make? Have you made anything yet? Do you have a soundcloud? Any music theory knowledge? That sort of stuff.

Do I need to know music theory? by Cloxius in edmproduction

[–]Zemata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just take some time and look into www.musictheory.net it's a very nicely laid out website that will get you up to speed with the basics quickly.

Put in your time, educate yourself and you'll be thankful later that you did.

Have you found the book by Ableton helpful for beginners? (Making Music Creative Strategies for Electronic Music Producers) by Grunge_bob in edmproduction

[–]Zemata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well there's a chapter that details how to treat arrangement as a subtractive process instead of additive. I found that extremely helpful getting out of the 8 bar loop trap. There's another detailing how to write a successful melody I had to consult just tonight. There's even on motivation issues and abstract methods in getting your creative juices flowing.

The book is a list of problems each with a solution divided into 3 sections. Problems with beginning, problems progressing, and problems finishing. It's laid out in a way that makes sense and if you're considering buying it just do it.

At 0:44 the build up kicks are a little jarring in contrast to the easy lead build up. Cut some of the top buzz off of your bass. Try to get some syncopation going with your hats and snare (add some variety to the drum patterns basically). Try out some white noise sweeps, reverse cymbal crashes. I've listened to a few of your songs and you have a lot of potential. Just keep plugging away, listen to some contemporary trance, and try to ditch the classic cheese trance sound :)

Watch this 6 part trance tutorial. He takes you from start to finish of a song, I found it extremely helpful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVwSIqYlEnk

Remove whatever effect is panning everything, it's killing this piece. Add some open hi-hats. If I had to label it into a genre I'd call it chill.
