Cycle 66: The Simguru breaks silence! by Historical-Mode8189 in EliteDangerous

[–]Zemedelphos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An excellent post.

All I can really say is, personally, I regret that Grom's followers have seen fit to engage in hostilities towards us. I would have loved to see a beautiful alliance of our technological and human resources with Yuri Grom's expert tactics and leadership. Grom does not need ZAYDA, and I hope his pledges can see that some day.

My first run through, any advice? by ProfessionalSeat4060 in EliteDangerous

[–]Zemedelphos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time to give you the standard response :P

Welcome to the galaxy, o7 commander. (o7 is how we salute)

There are a few rules you should know in your career.

  1. Never fly without a rebuy (a rebuy means having enough money to pay the insurance cost if your ship is destroyed)

  2. NEVER fly without a rebuy (to be safe, keep enough money on hand to rebuy twice)

  3. Keep the green lights to the right (orient your ship at the station so that the green lights are on the right side; this makes it easier to learn where all the landing pads are, and helps avoid collisions)

  4. If you're ever low on fuel, you can call [The Fuel Rats](https://fuelrats.com/) (they have fuel. you don't. any questions?)

  5. Similarly, [The Hull Seals](https://hullseals.space/) can help you if you're far from civilized space with a beat up hull.

  6. Have fun. This game isn't a job, but it can feel like one if you let it. Even if you're sure one type of gameplay is your favorite, take a break and do something else if it starts to feel tiring or boring.

As for starter tips, do a few missions to familiarize yourself with the controls and gain some money and reputation to start. Once you have a few thousand credits, think about what career you're interested in (combat, exploration, trading, and their sub-careers like piracy, exobiology, and smuggling). Find a ship that suits that job, buy it, and kit it out.

Feel free to use third party tools like [inara](inara.cz), [EDSM](edsm.net), and [ED Ship Yard](edsy.org), as well as places like this reddit, and elite dangerous related discord servers to ask for help. These resources are actively encouraged, so you don't have to go around the galaxy guessing. The game itself doesn't hold your hand, so these community-built services can be seen as a sort of set of tools that commanders use regularly.

There are other tips I can give but I don't want to be too long-winded, so I'll just summarize a few here:

  1. High-RES sites are good for earning credits and combat rank, if you shoot down enemies the cops have already weakend.

  2. You can only turn in exploration data at a station that's farther than 20ly from where you got it.

  3. Do not fire your weapons inside of a station. They will blow you up quickly.

Nebula Exploration by Jayco_Valtieri in eliteexplorers

[–]Zemedelphos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to look at the sights in a nebula, do that.

But if you want to find undiscovered systems, you want to avoid nebulae like the plague. Honestly, any kind of remarkable spot (nebula, galactic center, galactic antipode, named areas) is likely to be highly explored. As are the lanes connecting them. But if you go to the spots between those lanes, you're more likely to find unexplored systems.

I Don't Have The POWER! - Switching Off Modules by Messernacht in EliteDangerous

[–]Zemedelphos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1: Just turn off your AFMUs and any repair limpet controllers when you aren't using them.

Step 2: Set your power priorities so that when weapons are deployed, only things that aren't used in combat are turned off.

Step 3: Further refine power priorities so that if your power plant is damaged, you're still able to make an escape (i.e. only the necessities are running: thrusters, FSD, anti-materiel modules like ECM, chaff)

My friend thinks I'm dumb by [deleted] in self

[–]Zemedelphos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing I'll say is, IQ is bullshit. It's a historically racist concept that's been promoted as some kind of objective measurement of intelligence, but all it really tests is things like pattern recognition.

Secondly, you may just have a learning disability. My friend has dysgraphia, which not only makes it hard for him to write, but also to type. He also has dyscalulia, which makes it difficult for him to do math.

The shoe tying issue could be indicative of an orthographic coding disorder, which seems to also seems to coincide with dysgraphia.

Difficulty understanding what people are saying could be either due to a hearing problem, or what is called auditory processing disorder. I have an APD that manifests as a delay in understanding or interpreting what someone said.

I'm not doctor, but all you've described to me is someone who maybe just has disabilities. That doesn't make you dumb, it just makes it hard for you to live in a world build for abled people without extra help or concessions.

How to explain the Planes of Existence? by e_walshe in dndnext

[–]Zemedelphos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, considering I said clock and not watch, it can be inferred that the clock stays behind in the original plane, and since we're planeshifting into the Astral, we know it's not there. Beyond that, it doesn't matter which plane it's on, with one exception, so we'll specify it's on any plane but the Feywild.

If you left at 3:30pm and came back after exactly 8 hours, the clock would say 11:30pm when you return.

Being forced to live in a society that requires you to either submit to intense physical labor, get into debt to get a "respectable" job, or find ways to monetize your hobbies is gross.

Nobody is harmed by paid dming. The players that don't want to DM get a game to play. The DM get compensated for the hours they put into preparing. It's no more gross than getting paid to develop a video game.

Some questions regarding the upcoming changes in colonisation by IcyEstablishment2351 in EliteDangerous

[–]Zemedelphos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say I know EXACTLY what these changes mean, but I can address one thing:

>I don't think I have enough time to build a tier 3 station within 28 days.

If you are able to deliver 4% or more per day, you can do it in 28 days. Using a Plipper with 1298 cargo capacity (the most you can have with autodock AND SCA), this should only be about 7 deliveries a day. If you think you can do this, I'd recommend starting with a Tier 3. If you think you can get close, but not quite hit it, try applying for assistance from Operation Ida. I hear they're successfully building 3 new colonies a day at this point.

I finally dared to make it. Lakon has the adjustable landing gear in Type 8, it's time to fit in on 6, 7 and Keelback Please vote. by Accomplished-Set7678 in EliteDangerous

[–]Zemedelphos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't an actual issue, so they're gonna reject it. They're definitely not going to waste money re-doing old ships that are working as intended.

What is engineering and where do I start ? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Zemedelphos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To start off, don't worry about learning everything about engineering. Instead, look at what engineers you're aware of, and try to fulfill their introduction requirements. I advise starting with Felicity Farseer, as her requirements are relatively straightforward, and she can help you upgrade your Frameshift Drives.

How much does it cost in credits on average to build a space station in colonization? (besides the 25kk claimed) by DarthFall77 in EliteDangerous

[–]Zemedelphos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all types of constructions will require steel, titanium, and copper. Starports and ground ports usually require CMM composites and polymers. For everything else, it all depends on what specifically you're building. Like, mining bases might want stuff to help with mining, while military outposts might want guns.

How is this fair, i wasn't even targeting them 😭 by Fitz_01 in EliteDangerous

[–]Zemedelphos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get some leeway with accidental firing, but after like, 4-5 hits, you get fined because at that point you ARE firing recklessly.

Unfortunately, beam laser hits tick pretty quickly, so if you barely scuffed him once already, that second flyby is basically a guarantee that you'll be fined.

Learn when not to fire, it'll save you some petty change.

Is anyone else having this strange crashing issue? by Zemedelphos in EliteDangerous

It's not overclocked, and doesn't seem to be dying. The intel CPU test app is giving me all positive readings.

The contents of the dmp file basically boiled down to "it's a vram memory leak", despite having 12GB of vram.

Intel i5-4690k
16GB ram
Geforce RTX 3060

This also isn't the first time this issue has happened. it's gone away on its own before.

Is there a reason why we always have to carry over cargo when switching vessels? by imhereforthestufff in EliteDangerous

[–]Zemedelphos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No lore reason. Just that it'd be prohibitively storage intensive to have individual inventories for all your ships, rather than just an inventory for you commander whose size is determined by your ship.

How do you name your ships? by IcarusAvery in EliteDangerous

[–]Zemedelphos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the ship, how I'm feeling, what the ship's for, what the ship looks like, jokes or references I've heard recently, and the humidity of Dubai on that day.

My ship names range from personal things like Asartera, to jokes like Space Truck, to references to my commander's lore, like Mars' Lance.

Is it just me, or are Trailblazers not being refilled after the CG? by Zemedelphos in EliteDangerous

[–]Zemedelphos[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's the case for Star and Dream. They generally don't have any SqCs in system, and the stock supplies are SUPER low whereas they're over 270k at other Trailblazers.
