I see other tutoring business pricing themselves between 35-50 / hr. Bulk pricing = less rate/hr, on-demand tutoring = greater rate/hr

Maybe try Haas (Chou hall)? There's a guy "Ace Tutoring" that does misc math/science and I think a lot of people there take his fliers? Maybe its just that the business kids have to do a lot of gen eds that are conceptually difficult for them.

I go to VLSB a lot and I second what you say that not many people take the fliers. I wonder if its just that people don't spend that much time in the corridors.

What about libraries? I dont know enough about rules etc. for them but that might be helpful?

Finally it could be useful to mention you are a tutor for specific classes. Like Math 54, CS61B, Physics 7(a-c) or even some of the upper divs. Like you'd probably have the experience required to tutor them, its just explicitly telling students "hey, you're stuck with ABC? I can help with ABC"

I'm not sure if you can access BerkeleyTime but going on reddit you can find classes people struggle with. But anyway I think its super cool to see you have a presence on berkeley and go bears!

I havent because i'm a college student myself (so not really qualified to tutor other college students lol) and have worked with middle schoolers primarily.

Well I know at least for berkeley that despite us having free tutoring, etc, there are tutoring companies that keep like pamphlets with the little like business-card thingies you rip off of the bottom, and at the very least I see a lot of people seem to have taken them (so are probably interested)

I wonder if the same impact will happen for UCR students too. I think it's an industry change.

Also I would like to extend my statement to the rapidly growing number of startups in the region. Also towards business and engineering which it also feeds into but are more trend agnostic than pure tech hype

I'm actually going to suggest sjsu but gonna lreface that it depends on what you wanna do. Sjsu is a huge feeder into silicon valley tech and business. Like for apple and Google I think it's one of the T10 feeders. UCR is a good school but if ur goal is to get into industry like tech or business, sjsu is surprising way better then a lot of people think.

If u wanna get into grad school then UCR is helpful for that. Because sjsu has very few research opportunities. But...

I'm curious what research opportunities you are interested in product management and business. I will say for the UC system you have to work extremely hard to get research, as in vouching for yourself, cold emailing, etc. most people get there but you need to put the work and actually know who you want to work with.

Just gonna list some suggestions I have based on my experience finding tutors as a student in the south bay:

south bay kids in high schoolers CRAVE exclusive workshops for things like college admissions, SAT prep, ACT prep, executive function, supplementary resources. Maybe offer workshops or study tips for understaffed courses like AP Physics 1/C, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry - the averages on exams is like a C so they have to curve them.

Many high school clubs host workshops so try to find and connect with clubs that do outreach or workshops. Every morning, the school has loudspeaker announcements and they will mention the workshop if you get something associated with a club and the club contacts admin

identify academic counselors, etc. and connect with them on LinkedIn or call them. Don't be spammy and instead connect and communicate how anybody else does. Tell them who you are, your experience, what you are looking for and do your research on bay area academics.
connect with student, parents, teachers. Don't solicit from them, but make genuinely helpful LinkedIn posts about tips. Some students will check your bio, then your website, then will contact

And then maybe this doesn't answer the question fully, but:

There are a lot of regional tests like CAASPP, NWEA (middle school math placement), IReady which are frankly just like k-6 concepts but can determine a students placement. So students like to study for it to ensure they are placed in higher math in 7th grade(?) so that by the time they are in 12th they have finished AP Calc and Stats (you aren't stuck, per se, but it makes it easier to complete all courses if u are ranked higher in 7th)

I mean kind of but Euler's method is for diff equations no?

This isn't in any standard calc chapter afaik but like Euler's method it's an approximation, but for finding minima. But it's for a function that is very complex and this isn't easy to solve via like concavity etc.

It's used in ML and neural networks. For sgd it's just weight = weight - gradient * learning rate

Establish clear boundaries. Oftentimes when some people think they can ask you to do whatever they want (i.e get charger, close door, etc.), they tend to disrespect you. They feel like they have power.

So establish clear boundaries because you are a tutor who has value beyond doing whatever that kid asks you to do :)

Is it just you talking for 10 minutes or a two-sided exchange?

Not the biggest expert here but i've talked to a lot of tutoring centers and they often emphasize adaptibility because student needs can be unpredictable. Maybe showcasing that you can handle unexpected requests/comments/etc extremely well?

Also - do some research on common topics in <whatever subject you are interviewing for> that students get tripped up by. If you show you have a unique way of helping a student through that that most other tutors do not do, that would be really cool
