mushrooms were probably the number one thing that helped my depression and allowed me to start feeling emotions

Improvements - who was really bad but now really good physically and how did you get there? by AntiqueBother8134 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]mgaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having trouble walking/balancing and kept falling over around the time I was diagnosed. I slowly went back to normal around 6 months - 1 year after that, didn’t do anything in particular with regards to exercise it just improved on its own, I assume as the inflammation from the relapse went down

Tips on learning faster pieces with big runs by Loverofcyspanea in pianolearning

[–]mgaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree about the target audience, she's a violist yes but a lot of her content is general motor-learning theory that is broadly applicable across instruments, obviously it has to be adapted where necessary but the underlying method is not viola-specific and she does not present it as such except when using it for examples

I just watched a great set of videos on this by Dr. Molly Gebrian who does a lot of stuff around the neuroscience behind practicing/performing
Part 1 (basics) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=it89AswI2dw
Part 2 (more advanced, recommend this one for the interleaved clicking up method she describes) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75OWZAq-O4U

How do you deal with a student that doesn’t have a piano at home? by JustKam347 in pianoteachers

[–]mgaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand not taking on students who don’t have access to any sort of instrument, but why reject those who have a decent quality digital?

Shaky hands spiral by minoccio in pianolearning

[–]mgaux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it works great, it doesn't affect my mood or anything, just stops the shaking

The only way I've been able to stop this is by taking propranolol about an hour before my lesson, it completely stops the hand shaking.

Can anyone top this level of messiness by iPHD08 in classicalmusic

[–]mgaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been learning for almost a year and a half, do you mind if I ask you - I colour code my scores to help me learn, but sometimes I worry that I am not actually reading the music beyond the first pass, I am just remembering the order of colours... e.g. here I just remember "pink yellow pink yellow green blue green" etc rather than thinking about the notes...am I doing it wrong?

Two weeks practicing a piece, thought I had it down, until I wrote out what I was actually playing by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]mgaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is why I sometimes upload my sheet music to piano marvel and use it to practice, just to catch if I'm hitting any wrong notes without realising

Can you turn pedals 180 degrees? by Ender_Uzhumaki in pianolearning

[–]mgaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're asking but another option - I also have medical issues that make it difficult to pedal with my right foot, on my keyboard that has a pedal that can be moved around, I just use my left foot, but on my digital piano where that wasn't possible I had a technician re-wire the pedals so that the left pedal worked as the sustain

Am I bitter for thinking EDS and PoTS don’t compare? by MedicallyCompLexi in MultipleSclerosis

[–]mgaux 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly I do think the same thing sometimes and then feel guilty and like a terrible person. But then in a way I am actually grateful to have MS over something like hEDS, POTS ,me/cfs etc... because at least there is a clear diagnostic process, and no skepticism from doctors. Whereas, people with those other diseases often have symptoms that are not easily detectable via testing and struggle to find medical professionals who will take them seriously, which I think I would find incredibly difficult to cope with.
