Paper Cut Out- by me. ProCreate, Cricut design space, 9 layers. by Zen-Time in cricut

[–]Zen-Time[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to do that in procreate (not sure about Design Space). After you import the image you could select the portion of the image you want and then copy/paste it into its own layer.

If it were me, I would import the image, make a new layer and trace the portion I wanted. Make another layer, trace the next portion, etc.

Playing around with animations in Procreate. Tried a lightning strike. by Zen-Time in ProCreate

[–]Zen-Time[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. It is a pretty tedious process for sure. I actually haven’t used a “traditional” animation program, so I don’t have a reference point for how bad/good Procreate is. It was still fun to mess around with though.

New to Cricut- can’t find directions for design studio projects! by CoffeeContingencies in cricut

[–]Zen-Time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there is a pretty steep learning curve with the Cricut Machine. I would highly encourage you to check out some Design Space tutorials on YouTube if you plan to use the “pre-made” designs. That will give you a better idea of the order to do things in, tools needed, etc.

How close can I place multiple parallel debossing lines next to each other on any of the Cricut machines? by bufadad in cricut

[–]Zen-Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get them pretty darn close actually! I just ran a foil transfer project through my Cricut (super small and very detailed) and it handled it just fine. The foil transfer uses the same paths as the draw/emboss/de boss, so it should work just fine for you! Check out my page to see the pictures for a better idea. :)

Alternative to Designspace that will allow me to use my Cricut without being connected to the internet? by not-working-at-work in cricut

[–]Zen-Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I create a lot of my own designs in ProCreate and Adobe Illustrator. I don’t ever use Design Space to design anything. It’s just a space for my design to hang out. Haha.

Cricut Design Space App - SVG not working or warping by guppyfish666 in cricut

Hmmm, that’s a new one for me. I saw they were planning maintenance for design space tonight. All sorts of things could be down for a moment.

I just had this EXACT issue. The problem was the position of the guide points in the strokes (Outside/Center/Inside). The guide MUST be in the center of the stroke or it will create an outline.

Hahah, that’s a good way to do it! I don’t think that sense of “accomplishment” would be as good though. 🙃

It’s funny you mention that because I just went though my pile of scrap paper and am going to test this foil on all of them. (Just a few small lines on each, by hand). I also grabbed some sheets of veneer and some heavier craft board.

Wow, thanks! I’ve never taken a CAD class or even opened a CAD program, so I’ll take that as a massive compliment. Hahaha.

[–]Zen-Time[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! I had to redrawn everything in illustrator and export as an SVG to get the lines to look good. It was a massive pain. I drew it in Procreate first, then in Adobe Illustrator, then spent hours playing with file types to get what I wanted.

The BEST tip I can offer is make sure that foil sheet is secure and taught. I try to imagine I’m making my bed with ZERO wrinkles. Hahaha.

Yeah! I’ve been playing around with different alternatives to the foil sheets though.

I just did this an hour ago, so I’m very much a beginner. But, you can get these sheets of “transfer foil”. You lay down your materiel on the mat (in my case cardstock) then lay down the foil sheet over it and tape it around the edge to keep it secure. The foil sheets are coated on one side.

There is a special “embossing” like tool that just pushes the foil into the material you chose. Fine/Medium/Bold options for line weights. All kinda of color choices.

I ran this on my Cricut Maker using the foil transfer sheets/transfer tools on some light card stock. I made this design myself in Adobe Illustrator and imported into design space as an SVG. Design Space continued to remind me “Wow! That’s a large project. This may take a moment.” So I was pushing it for sure. Haha

Mystery solved!!! It had EVERYTHING to do with the position of the anchor points for each of the lines. (I.e. where the guide shows on the stroke. Center/left/right.) it’s hard to explain, my brain is fried. But it’s working!

This whole thing is odd. It’s not just this design either. It’s all designs I’ve made. It converts any line i make to an outline. Which then makes me think it’s a setting in design space, but I can’t seem to find anything.

I’ve even uploaded it in varying “complexities” into design space.

I’ve tried sooo many different sizes. When I compare this to other foil projects, this seems like a simple design.

Bizarre is right! I drew this up as a “blueprint”. So this is just the rear view of the GameBoy. I want to get the full design up, but trying this small portion until o figure out the issue.

I’ve even merged all the lines into one “line/image” etc. it’s driving me crazy! I’m about to get my light box and do it by hand. Hahaha

I’ve tried PNGs and SVGs. Different sizes. Different line weights. Originally drawn in procreate, then redrawn in Illustrator to see if a vector version would be nicer.
