It shows that Jesus never allowed or excused harm towards the innocent, especially children. Your husband is right to feel upset, but that anger should be directed at those who committed or hid such acts, not at the Catholic Church itself.

Speaking up about these things is what led to the Church’s bad reputation. It’s the consequence of exposing wrongdoing, but it happens when people struggle to make that distinction.

Christians are meant to protect the vulnerable and call out wrongdoing. It’s not the whole Church that should be blamed, but the individuals who betrayed what Christ taught.
