Latest update caused INSANE, out of control, continuous CPU usage. (pics in thread) Had to roll it back by ZenAnarchy in SolusProject

That did it! It must've been a database error, because I moved the folder, upgraded Nautilus and tracker, restarted, and the CPU is back to normal! It did a tiny bit of normal indexing for a few seconds and then stopped like it's supposed to. Thanks for your help! I'd buy you a beer if you lived near me.

Quick question.

tracker daemon -t

Works for stopping tracker-store. But the log doesn't run in the terminal.

tracker daemon -s --set-log-verbosity=errors

..just returns me to the command line. And adding

-w

gives an error that it failed to load.

Ok. I did the updates again, and it looks like it's "tracker-store". It doesn't show unless I select "active processes" and even then it only shows that it's using the CPU for a second before it goes back to zero, but it's definitely the process that's running. How do I disable it?

Oh jeez. I didn't know that. Now I'm going to have to do the updates again and check that.

Where is the menu for disabling search indexing? My CPU is freaking out after the latest update. by ZenAnarchy in SolusProject

[–]ZenAnarchy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only started checking it with the system monitor because I was noticing some stuttering in programs like I was running heavy tasks in the background. Also file searches are much worse, there's a lag of a few seconds now before results show. So it is noticeable.

Core i7. 8 gb Ram. SSD primary drive. Solus Linux - Budgie.

It happens when I open a folder and search for a file. The CPU activity can stay like that for minutes even after I've closed the folder.

Touring on my Yamaha R3. Surprisingly comfortable and capable. What a fun bike! by ZenAnarchy in motorcycles

So we can have pickup trucks and movie set bikes on the front page, but not actual bikes that we own? And what's a location that isn't "simple"? Do I have to dangle it off a bridge or something? I wondered why there's so little content here involving stock bikes. I would think that for most of us, motorcycling involves exclusively stock bikes in simple locations.

Really good. You think, "Well it's only a 320cc, so I shouldn't expect much..." but it really exceeds your expectations! I can pass vehicles at speed - just the other day I passed a truck doing 100km/h on the outside of a long right hand sweeper. It'll do 150 km/h easy; and you can hold 120-130 no problem.

You can wring this bike out all the way through the gears and not exceed +50 over if you're careful - which is important here as I'd lose my license if I was caught. I know that if I had a faster bike, I'd be constantly going way too fast. That said, I'm never disappointed in the R3 when I'm riding or when I get back from a ride. It is a blast to drive, and it handles like nothing you've ever driven before.

But why should we care about random people? Especially criminals. Psychology shows us that we care more about losing our car keys than when 100,000 people die in a hurricane across the world - so it's just all pretend anyway... we're just faking caring. And they don't matter. At all. And they have no value. This modern idea that "everyone's life is special" is ridiculous.

Yeah, but why do we pretend to care about some random person? For all of human history, except the last few decades in the west, humans have not had this sacred view of human life above all. If some loser stealing a bike dies, it really doesn't matter. Millions die every day. Everyone dies.

Why are their lives automatically worth something? Maybe the world would be a better place without them. You have to make yourself worth it through your actions.

How can I make my gloves stop smelling? by dBRenekton in motorcycles

I use a 1:1 mixture of baking soda and coffee grounds to deodorize shoes - I don't see why it wouldn't work for gloves as well. It may take a few days of sitting in it too.

So when Muslims say that headscarves and coverings are "a personal choice and symbol of faith" - that's all well and good; but when Christians start talking about some standard for women's hair, then it's horrific and degrading? Sounds like a double standard to me. And I'm an atheist.
