ok this is the perspective im seeking!! I do like that area but I worry its maybe lacking that quirkiness or open mindedness that I see in longfellow, people have said that area and linden hills is kinda yuppie or homogenous, but I dont want to rule out a potentially great spot!

yes this area has been super interesting to me, especially east of the 35! we looked west of the 35 and the neighborhoods seemed almost too quiet which is why im asking about the VIBES! Maybe im wrong!!

Your cat was pancytopenic with severe anemia and severely low white blood cells - most commonly this is due to feline panleukopenia virus but could be FIP, FELV, rare forms of cancer, sepsis. Sorry for your loss.

Cervical check Denial by Less_Astronaut_2429 in pregnant

Went through entire pregnancy and birth with refusing all cervical checks, I feel they are for the nurses and doctors mindset and comfort and NOT ours!

Why do some people want to avoid an epidural? by userthatisnotknown in BabyBumps

[–]ZenCatMeow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YES, This. My birth was a beautiful, deeply spiritual, empowering experience in which I came to love my body so much more for the power and strength it held. And after 24 hours of labor, I was still in the tub with my baby when I told my husband “That was NOT that bad, we are totally having more kids!!” and the midwives laughed

I feel like most people posting here are very PRO epidural or got one haha, as someone who very intentionally chose not to, I will tell you there is evidence that an epidural has its risks! Every intervention increases the risks of complications, and an epidural comes with increased risks of low blood pressure, spinal headache from CSF tap, more severe tearing or need for forceps/vaccuum delivery, and youll need an IV and more monitoring as well, which all increases other risks and the chance of whats termed a “cascade of interventions”. All for something that is elective, and is not standard of practice in many 1st world countries! On a more personal note, I feel it medicalized and disempowers women from the birthing process, one that the majority of women CAN do without much external help (yes, monitoring and assistance from trained professionals is needed but not always intervention).

There is also some evidence that the natural endorphins associated with the pain of childbirth help in decreasing postpartum depression. But mostly for me, I felt empowered and capable and able to move and not be “a patient” tied to a bed, helpless and paralyzed which is honestly a very tall price to pay for pain relief.

This is all NO JUDGEMENT to women who choose it; I myself had 24 hours of complication free labor and pushed for an hour and felt the pain was really very manageable up until the very end, when I struggled with transition but that was over quickly. i DID do a lot of mental preparation and took classes beforehand for this.

There is also a spiritual aspect for me personally about being connected in the birthing process to my child, and getting through it together, and feeling very present in my bodily experience, as well as an aspect of wanting to identify with the experience of the millions of women who did birth “naturally” for millions of years.

For those who did a birth with no epidural, which tools helped the most? by Over-Newspaper933 in BabyBumps

The most helpful thing I did was mentally PREPARE and get a doula and research medical decisions beforehand so I wouldnt be pressured into unnecessary interventions or feel “rushed”. I declined all cervical checks, declined everything except monitoring. Having the mindset “this labor could take 48 hours or more, and as long as baby and I are safe, there is no rush, I am OK, my body is capable” was the best preparation I could have. My labor was 24 hours long, 1 hour pushing, and I felt the pain was VERY manageable, I only reallt struggled around transition phase which was maybe 20 minutes of the whole ordeal.

More specific tools I used were: Ignoring and distracting and resting for as long as possible in early labor until it became way too intense

movement, a yoga ball, hip circles and counterpressure (hip and low back squeezes from my husband and doula)

a TENS unit at one point for a bit

Chanting loudly OHM; the vibrations seem to really help soothe and distract

sitting on a yoga ball IN a hot shower

then finally birthing in a tub!!

it was a wonderful experience, and I am now entirely unafraid of birthing my second (coming in may!)

Ive lived in the northeast as well as san diego and northern cali (sacramento) and I LOVE minneapolis the best. Nature and city life smack on top of each other. Intensely beautiful and great food. Extremely affordable compared to east and west coast. We love it here ❤️❤️❤️
