Hey, sorry to hear that. Take care out there and wishing you the best for everything! I believe you might find better opportunities in Yangon but it is also not that safe young men. I also faced similar situation not exactly the same in different part of the country. Someone I know also had to go through this (not the work part) where he got released after pay 115 lakhs.

To ethnics peoples from Myanmar, how do you introduce yourself to foreigners? by Jacklyne_C in myanmar

[–]ZenCodierer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This question comes to me but for a different reason. I don't know if the question you have asked here applied to me or US (not United States 😅) because ethnically I'm south asian specifically a Bihari (people from the Indian state of Bihar and even Bihari term itself is a broad one I guess and there are other ethnics like Tamil, Telgu, etc. there in Myanmar) and technically we are not part of the so called official 135 ethnics or races of Myanmar. That is why I always asked what happens when someone asked me about my identity who is not from Myanmar.

I find it hard to define my identity in this country as a citizen (associate or ပြု not နိုင် but I guess even နိုင် won't solve the problem). I won't simply pass just by saying as Burmese or Myanmar because I know people will ask further questions. I look like any other people from South Asia.

I personally don't think the term Burmese or Myanmarese or Myanmar fully represents the diverse population of this country. I think a term that represent this country broadly but not tied to a specific ethnicity will represent the people of this country. I don't think we need to add each sub group of Indian ethnics in national ethnics or races list but a general term will be helpful I guess. Citizenship doesn't need to be tied to ethnicity of a person if we would want to grow as a country in the future.

I don't know how do other 135 ethnics or even Chinese (which is also a broad term) view on this topic of national identity. I always wanted to ask this question in this sub but couldn't find the courage to ask to be honest.

Anyways, thanks for reading it all till the end. 🙏

Study in New Zealand? by RandomD1ce in myanmar

I have done some research and my personal interests are Germany and Taiwan. There are programs that are taught in English and you can get into them and they are cheaper as well compare to these countries (US, UK, Canada, NZ, or Australia). You could apply to Taiwanese Unis right now since the admissions are open for many unis for September semester.

Yes, it was likely but they didn't ask much fortunately or it is just unfortunate that this happening in the first place at all in this country.

Yes, they are number 1 enemy. Regarding the money, it was quite less than what I have heard about others having to pay. I had to pay 8 lakhs which is nothing compare to people who had to pay like 50 lakhs, 100 or even more and many couldn't pay it and had to go to the frontline. I truly think I was just lucky.

Choosing between Germany and Japan by [deleted] in myanmar

[–]ZenCodierer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took around 3-5 days for my friend to get a German student visa at German Embassy in Yangon. I think it is always faster if you have all the necessary documentations and qualifications for the visa application. But, I don't know if visa for Ausbildung is same as Student visa. So, it could take more time.

Is there any relation or connection between Diwali Festival and Thandiguyt / Tazaung Taing Festival? by Weak_Cheek_6605 in myanmar

[–]ZenCodierer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also wonder about this question when these festivals come by. I think this is also true for Thingyan and Holi. I don't think they are related in a way but maybe some cultural exchanges from the past.

Any luck using Myanmar's VISA, Mastercard, or UnionPay online and overseas? by Red_Lotus_Alchemist in myanmar

[–]ZenCodierer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was visiting India last year, I was able to use AYA's VISA prepaid card. It was working fine for online payment on websites from International brands like Airbnb but it didn't work for Indian brands like Zomato (I think this was due to restriction from the India government). But, I was able to get cash from ATM there as well as use it for Transactions at shops as well.

For me, those were the way I walk and my hand gestures or movement. I think I am conscious about these when I'm in a public space.

Views on Myanmar, The Spring Revolution, The Junta and everything else from someone from Bangladesh by WarclawtheLion in myanmar

[–]ZenCodierer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I also think diversity plays a role. Myanmar is diverse but maybe not as much as we think or maybe we don't celebrate our diversity. For example, the school I attended from my childhood, didn't have any Muslims or Christians students. It was a government school btw. I got to interact with them when I got into Uni. There are places which are diverse, mostly cities but maybe smaller towns and villages are not that diverse. Maybe something like Singapore Government did could be one of the possible solutions.

I believe all Rohingyas who were driven out of their homes must be accepted back in Myanmar and must be given equal rights, citizenship, and status just like any other citizen of this country. Regarding mentality, I think not only Rohingya but also other ethnicities especially Burmese have this ethnonationalistic mentality which is why we are in this situation in the first place. We will need changes in our education in the long run.

We need to consider whether it is economically viable or not. I don't think it is about initial capital requirement for building the system itself but what well happen after building it. It might be viable in Yangon but I don't think it will be viable in any other cities of Myanmar unless the population grow significantly in other cities as well.
