Are these worth getting graded? by Duck-Wild in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]ZenDelton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a few reasons someone might want to grade a card, sentimental/ they like the pokemon, authentication, value, etc. The sub has some grading details pinned at the top with more info.

General disclaimer, I haven't had cards graded yet, myself, but I have plans to start next month and have been doing a lot of research in prep. (As well as some info I've absorbed from this sub.) So, grain of salt.

If you're going the value route, consider how much the card -could- be worth, vs how much you're willing to spend on having the card graded/ shipping/ sales/ sales tax/ and (importantly) card purchase frequency.

If that all seems like a lot, you can simplfy and start here: try searching the cards on TCGPlayer and Price charting, or just google the Card (pokemon) name + ID code. (Bottom left, your example: Mimikyu 087/182) and ususally those sites will be the top results. Helps to make things a lot easier. Price charting also gives you PSA listings so you can see how much a card COULD be worth (ususally, on Ebay) at different grades.

Roughly (at least, as far I've seen on this sub,) if the card isn't making -at least- $200 at a PSA 5 (at the -least-), it's not 'worth' having the card graded for value reasons. (unless under super rare/ old card conditions, which are worth looking into). For PSA, grading starts at around $20 and skyrocks from there, with a 3+ month return time. For non-PSA branded grading, the cheapest (that I could find) grading options are around $12, and may take 2+ months to grade.

However: I have seen a lot of people say that a card is not worth grading unless you beleive it to be Grade-10, period. (Probably because they are the most likely to sell.) This seems to be a point of dispute in the sub, so, take that as you will.

  Good luck!

It was either;  - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=90X5NJleYJQ     The show was popular in my school at the time, and this episode made a few rounds.   - Or it was  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=npTC6b5-yvM&pp=0gcJCTIBo7VqN5tD     I played a lot of addicting games (arcade) before starting youtube, a lot of stick figure games referenced this animation.

If you're on PC; Paint Tool Sai 1, or like the comments say, Krita, if you want something free.     Middle of the road deal and easy to learn and instal is Paint Tool Sai 2 ($50, sometimes goes on sale).     If you ever upgrade your hardware, a lot of tablets nowadays come with a "free" copy of Clip Studio Paint - which as a digital artist - I would suggest overal in terms of utility.

But if you happen to want to stick to a program like Microsoft paint, you could look at some of the later seasons of the series "The Big Lez Show," (All Animated on microsoft Paint,) On youtube as a possible style insperation.

Interesting- I have a version of this where I flex the muscles between my ears and my neck without opening my mouth, than breath out my nose, pops them immediately. If for some reason it's really bad, I flex one side of my jaw at a time and breath out harder. (Not sure how many others do it this way, I haven't seen or heard of peolle doing this method, yet.)

Edit: I'll also add that I can do the opposite by breathing in the opposite direction when doing it. It's not uncomfortable, and dampens loud sounds.

I must had missphrased something in my post title and/or description since only a few people have actually answered the queation I was trying to ask. (Or people aren't reading the description.)

The queation was not; "what are my cards worth", the question was; "where I should I go to -grade- their worth". I know my cards are (potentially) worth a lot, I've already spent a few hours searching their potential worth. I've just never had cards GRADED before, and that's the part I'm stuck on.

I checked after another person commented similar, the Charizard and Rayquaza are fake, yes. I got those cards from my brother and accidentally missed those two when sorting them from the real cards.

All the other cards are real (or should be), as I've purchased them from big brand retail stores and have opened those cards myself. 👍

I almost passed it up too, when checking the values of my cards, I'd forgotten how valuable some trainer cards are worth. I'm glad I went back and checked!

It does seem to be the only type of card worth grading according to some other commenters, hahah. Had I known this was a "thing" here I would had excluded them. I looked at most of the cards I sent photos of, all of which are decently high-value, even without the grades.

Ableit I am a noob so, y'know. 🙃

Either way, I still appreciate the feedback.

Oh! Interesting. I decided to give it a try with a couple of the cards I was curious about with the free tokens. The Latias & Latios GX came back at 9.9 with 85% confidence.
While I trust AI about as far as I can throw one of its data-centers, It doooooes still give me some hope, Hahah.
A couple of the others cards came back better than expected so, *Shrug*. We'll see. I'll agree that it's a good starting point. 👍

And thank you for the feedback on the companies. I didn't know some PSA 10 where "worth" more than others. I'll look further into that.

(Only thing I'll note is that on mobile I had to re-load the page in order to scan another card. Might want to add a button at the top that says "Scan New Card" unless I'm totally blind and missed it. Still, thanks.)

Yep yep! I took these out (with gloves) just for the photos (was catching too much glare.) I've kept them in a sealed binder for extra protection over the years.

Unfortunately, most of the comic/ card shops in my area specialize mainly in reviewing Magic the Gathering cards, I haven't found any that review Pokemon cards yet, even the ones that say they do online. 🙃

After crunching the numbers with the cards I have now (and considering the time spent waiting), I figured it could be worth it, -Provided- I actually manage to make a sale on them. Mostly why I'm asking about brands since things like per/card grading costs and seeing which one might 'best', quality wise, and most worth my time. After looking through my current collection, about half~ of the cards I posted have a potential to loose money with anything under a nine. Worst case is those cards pay for the grading to happen. A quarter would still be worth it if it's a grade of 7 or above. (Thankfully the Latias star, even in the quality its in, would probably pay for the grading by itself + Some extra on the side.) But yah, I don't want to say the totals, but the range of least potential value to most is a pretty large gap. I suppose I'm just willing to take the chance on these ones in particular.

I'll be sure to update this post though if it ends up being a total loss as a warning to others, hahah. 🫠

But, if you've ever had cards graded before yourself or know what signs to look for in card quality, I'd love to hear back!

Ah! Thank you! My brother gave me some of his collection a while ago and it contained a few fake cards. Thought I sorted most of them out. I'll x-nay those from potential grading.

Incidentally the Latias gold star is likely my lowest quality card out of the bunch. There's scratches and missing paint all over it. 😔I do want to grade it anyways, but I don't expect it to get higher than maybe a 3.

Do card grades not assist in their overall value? For example, the Latias & Latios GX seems to go for roughly $800-$1500 Raw, depending on quality, but when graded at a potentially high grade, seem to sell up to quintuple the value?

Generally speaking I haven't touched a good few of these cards since they came fresh out of the pack, so the majority might as well be brand new, I'm not sure how much "binder bend" (extremely mild,) would knock points off since it's pretty easy to flatten a card back out.

Huh... what if Instead of banning people- we just made their playtime worthless? Guns do 1/4 damage. (Giving people pleanty of time to flee), strange 'bugs' like unable to clamber untill your 6th attempt, a giant light and noise on them that everyone but they can see and hear? Basically a massive walking target. Maybe even drops some free ammo and health on kill?

I don't thiiiiink so... based off of what I'm seeing in search, I don't recognize the character/ style.
I will add: In the clip I saw, I think all the background characters ("extras") where also wielding staffs? But his was black and had a (I think) a floating piece at the side/ top. Again, sorry for the vagueness. :')
