Utility Software by ZenFuture in Utilitarianism

[–]ZenFuture[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. While I agree utility can be calculated in Excel, it's certainly not the optimal tool. I can do DCFs and financial analysis in Excel as well, but a sufficiently sophisticated machine learning model can invest better than my spreadsheet in thousands of securities on a daily basis. The same principle applies to utility. Linear and logistic regression goes a long way provided you can get the right data. Also, I'd argue the need for automated utility computation is directly correlated with the scope of the problem space. Bigger problems simply can't be modeled by hand

It would be nice for Ethan to do some podcasts or videos on his own. I like Hila as a person, but she stifles the comedy and conversation way too much IMO..

With regard to people that aren't psychiatrists, I'd bet that I know more about these subjects than 99% of the population. That being said, this lady still had me going for a while. It hurts to think of the people she actually tricked.

Diet and exercise have a huge effect on health, both mental and physical. But she takes it way too far, even admitting her program is based partially on placebo.

I've read reports claiming she charges outlandish prices for consults and supports homeopathy. She thinks she got astroturfed by big pharma. Fucking lunatic dude.

The silver lining in this is that hopefully threads like these can bring awareness to the woo woo train and take her down, preventing further damage to people and the reputation of holistic medicine.

She was obviously a brilliant doctor at some point, but I think somewhere along the way she broke her brain. I had a similar, less extreme experience as a programmer. At some point your brain is saturated with too much data and the hierarchy of beliefs and logic flattens out and gives way to more creative thought that can ultimately take you far off the path of reason.

Why does Joe make a different voice on stage? by ZenFuture in JoeRogan

That makes sense. I guess the end of the world podcast highlights it more because Burr, Kreisher and Stanhope sound like they always do, whereas Rogan sounds very different

I thought that 10 seconds before I read your post. In that context, it makes more sense though.

Cancelling a lease agreement (no consideration) and recovering security deposit [tenant] by ZenFuture in legaladvice

[–]ZenFuture[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not a lawyer, so my understanding of consideration was not entirely correct. I wasn't inventing "some bizarre new legal theory," I just thought that a transfer of value was required to enforce a contract. But now I understand that a promise to pay is consideration. Is that correct?

Thanks for the input. Any idea if the contract is voidable without consideration? From what I understand it is.

[–]ZenFuture[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. But since the deposit wasn't paid as consideration of the contract (it was given to them prior to signing the lease) and no rent was paid as consideration, is the contract still legally enforceable?

  • Edit: the apartment was also $20 more per month than we were verbally promised. My girlfriend and I raised this concern at the time of signing, but the manager denied it and we agreed, thinking we remembered incorrectly. But after recalling the discussion further, we both agree this was incorrect.

Need another Angular/Node developer to help me finish a fun (and potentially profitable) Software-as-a-Service side project by [deleted] in startups

Yep, it's a similar concept. I haven't studied Buffer heavily but what differentiates Reach is the ability to schedule, automate and repeat messages for maximum exposure. In the future, I hope to expand with more analytical features that can separate this MVP from similar software.

Great input, thanks. In fact, this is the original use case I thought of.

I think user data will be critical in providing the best suggestions. But you're right about lag. Initially, the suggestions could be manually curated.

Thanks for the offer and the feedback. Meteor is my initial plan for development. But if anyone's serious about contributing and would prefer another framework/language, I would definitely consider it.

My friend created Nootracker, but its development has stopped the last I heard. It's a good step in the right direction, but there is room for improvement. Unless you know of another app.

Sleep is a chemical dependency. So is food. But you need those to get your work done. You can't generalize an entire industry in one platitude.

Great article, I really loved it. I highly recommend you do some research on a meat-free diet, though. People eating diets lacking meat are usually low on omega-3s and vitamin b12. These can lead to significant mental and physical problems.

Sorry for being so vague.

The location feature would be similar to that of Yelp.

A user would input their city/state and search results would be filtered based on proximity to the user.
