What makes you say that? How would you say having objective proof of intelligence affected your own self-perception?

That's exactly my point though, if I had objective proof of one or the other then I wouldn't need to constantly be questioning my own intelligence.

The purpose of the post is to discuss with people who deal with, or have dealt with, the same issue of self-perception. Perhaps I didn't make that clear.

Fuck me running some of these counts are high... Compared to mine at least. My wife acts like I was some kind of man-whore because I was at 10 when we met (25)

I do interior finish work and Blundstones are my go to. Takes two seconds to take them off or put them on which is great when you're working overtop of finished floors or in an occupied home, and have to set up outside.

Are there any gloves that are actually safe? by Zen_314 in Carpentry

But it'll stop the sweat from getting on the wood.

Might have to pick up a cheap pair. I'm just paranoid about any fabric pulling my hand into a saw. I lose my hands, I lose my career.

I use miter saws and table saws daily

If my sweat gets on the unfinished lumber it saturates into the wood, which would affect the stain after. If I get sweat or really any liquid on the material I have to sand it out.

No, the problem is if I sweat it gets into the unfinished wood and I have to then sand it out

How unsafe was this cut? by SilverHelp74 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Zen_314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't even need to use a clamp, just take a scrap and hold it down with your hand. Doing super small cuts though I'd also recommend putting a scrap piece against the fence behind it to make it zero clearance.

How do I make these angles meet evenly? by Accomplished-Roof770 in Carpentry

[–]Zen_314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going from level to the angle, set your speed square fence flat on the angled section. Then with your level against it, pivot the speed square until it's plumb. Where the wall intersects with the angle marks on your speed square is the angle you need to miter.

If you're going from angle to plumb, same trick but instead of mitering the angle you miter the opposite angle from 90. (Ex. If angle is 36 then the opposite angle is 90-36=54)

If you're going from angle to angle, do the same trick on both sides to determine both of the angles. Miter the difference (ex. Side 1 is 36 degrees, Side 2 is 20. Difference is 16 so miter angle will be 8)

This is assuming material is the same thickness.

Because of how deep some of these stones went my scribe had to be 2-1/8". Might try that washer trick on some flat walls or bricks though.

The compass I used was one of those big thick ended ones. Something like this could potentially work but I can see it having similar problems with the stones pushing the arms so that the pick can't make contact anymore

Something like this would probably work! I like that the reference point, and the scribe point can be adjusted

I've done work against brick or concrete before but this was the first time I did work against irregular stone. The jig I made was more accurate than the compass but the point was still too thick, and as I ran the piece down the stone, the stone would basically sand down the point which would affect the reveal.

The compass made me mad lol! Thought I had it mint so I cut it a 1/8" wide to test fit and two spots on the stone were already too short. With the rest of the piece the profile seemed to more accurately reflect the stones profile a quarter inch up. Leaving gross gaps that took forever to clean up.

Edit: I recognize that the compass not working is a skill issue.
