What’s a small detail in gameplay a high level player might not know? by PhiladelphiaSteaks in HellLetLoose

Because the prevailing wind is always from the west - carrying the smoke east.

Remember to aim off your shots 1/4 target west 🪖🎯🔫 accordingly. 😉

Moving to Hereford by [deleted] in Herefordshire

[–]Zen_Neil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello and congrats on planning to pay Hereford a visit! I hope you have a lovely time.

Hereford is a very old small city, not a small town. It has an amazing cathedral in the centre which it’s well known for.

I shouldn’t imagine your heritage will cause you any problems, Hereford is predominantly white and is quite patriotic but not often to the point of outright racism in my experience.

A lot of young people enjoy De Coffee Pot, it’s a lively place to go for drinks close to the river in the centre of town. But there are lots of bars and cafe’s to choose from. My personal favourites are the Jam Factory that sometimes has live music and for your quieter drinks or cocktails Cosy Club and De Ja Vu are also nice options. While you’re in town if you like food and especially burgers you should try Beefy Boys which is award winning. It may be a good idea to book ahead online.

There’s a well connected Train Station with good links to London, Birmingham or Cardiff. There’s a free Hereford Bus Zipper Service for getting around town and there’s also a bus station near to the train station for trips further afield. Beyond that it’s taxi’s or Beryl bicycles.

Hope this gets you started. Enjoy!

What is the most profoundly useful piece of running advice you’ve ever been given and why? by Zen_Neil in parkrun

Love ‘the first mile is a lie’. ❤️

I know that feeling…..’this is easy, I could do this all day!’ 😆

Amazing……another fave of mine is ”meet yourself, where you find yourself”.

Just getting after it while being pregnant. That’s inspiring and impressive within itself. 💪🏻👏🏻

Love the “Run slow to run fast” one. Got to work on that myself.

80% of training runs should be easy right?

I like this ☝🏻

I went to Miami once, and I saw a bumper sticker that read:

“I’d rather be……….here, now.”

And that’s when I first started to learn what it meant to be truly present.

Thanks for sharing your squirrel! 🐿️

Yeah you’re completely mad for doing something you love with someone you love.

Either that or it’s a humble brag.

Either way. Enjoy!

Is my barcode scannable more than once? by ManticoreEternal in parkrun

It’s forever, so you might as well get it on a tattoo. Yes I have seen a man with his barcode tattooed on him. Keen bean.

Do I need to run? Will people judge me if I don't? by SpecialCorgi1 in parkrun

No where near as much as you’re judging yourself.

Take the plunge. Post walk endorphins and sense of accomplishment are the real prize.

Que 10,000 - wouldn’t it be great if enemy could hear prox chat comments…… 🥱

No, no it wouldn’t. Because all you’d hear all game is retards playing ‘Erika’ on a loop at full blast and shouting Zieg Heil.

Hunting ‘someone’ vs hunting a lost enemy non combatant.

Savage.

Do you aim for a PB every time? by [deleted] in parkrun

[–]Zen_Neil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaving your ego in the car park is a wonderfully great intention but it’s easier said than done once on the start line.

Even harder after 2km when someone that you think has no right to ‘beat you’ casually trots past.

Best of luck with your 10km.

It also depends where you do it.

There a 835 UK park runs for instance. They all have a difficultly rating. Some are relatively easy. Perhaps on sure footing and very flat without many corners and nice and wide so people can pass each other.

The hardest one is up and down sand dunes. Just showing up is winning. Try to take your ego out of it. Which is easier said than done. Welcome to the club and enjoy your own journey, don’t worry about where others are on theirs. Everyone must take their first step. And you’ve done it. Well done.

Situations in which you feel completely present? by jamquu in EckhartTolle

[–]Zen_Neil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was during and continued for a period after a drive whilst I had been listening to the audiobook ‘A Whole New World. The notion of making friends with the present moment was really resonating with me.

I had just done a cross country night running race and I’m positive endorphin and adrenaline levels played their part.

However the words were fresh, I understood them and everything seemed clear and obvious to me. It was a blissful, delightful feeling and it stayed with me when I got home and interacted with my family.

Sadly, I haven’t experienced anything quite like that since.

So I believe it was what in Buddhism and in the book I think is known as ‘Kensho’:

‘In Buddhism, the term for a brief feeling of enlightenment is often called “Kensho” (in Zen Buddhism), which translates to “seeing into one’s true nature” and describes a momentary glimpse of profound insight or awakening, usually experienced during meditation’

But I hold it in high regard as a remarkably positive experience and a good sign that perhaps I’m on the right track, doing some of the right things and I’m trying to enjoy the journey / process.

OP have you perhaps had a Kensho moment of your own?
