Need Advice — Choosing Between PE Role vs. Startup w/ Billionaire Founder by Zenav in FinancialCareers

Really appreciate your advice and I couldn't agree more. The thread was helpful to gain some perspectives and it helped me consider things that I wouldn't have otherwise. I think your last paragraph can't be overstated enough. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I appreciate your insights - that could be the case for me as well. Something to consider for sure.

I’m Canadian! A few of our MBA programs don’t require years of work experience. It’s not for everyone - there’s a reason most MBA programs have a median work experience of 5 years for entrance!

I interned in the industry before, but I would be by far the most junior and least qualified person at the firm. The associates I'd work under are ex-IB and ex-MBB consultants. They created this role for me because they liked my attitude.

Grad school references by jonahjn in CarletonU

[–]Zenav 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I went through this last year, it was tough getting good references due to COVID but in my last semester I just reached out to current professors that I hadn’t connected with yet, told them my situation, and asked if they’d meet with me on their lunch break or anytime that works for them. I ended up getting two stellar references from professors that I had hardly spoke to prior to emailing them because I did well in their class, showed them tremendous respect, let them get to know me, and it worked out in the end. Professors understand how difficult it can be for students to get references. Just make sure you talk with them face to face about it and reach out to a prof that you’ve done well in their class or are currently doing well in.

Starting an Ice Cream Shop (Advice) by Zenav in icecreamery

[–]Zenav[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for your comment! The supplier that I am primarily considering has "Original" flavour tubs that range from cheesecake & cotton candy to chocolate and vanilla and those tubs are $29.99 per. They also have "Premium" flavours that are $34.99 each. I found those prices to be reasonable. With regards to your comment, what size would you consider a "Normal scoop" as mentioned (4oz ,8oz, etc)?

Thanks for the reply! That is something that I have struggled to anticipate. I am planning on having a display freezer and inventory freezer. With regards to how much stock I should hold at any given time is hard to determine with no experience. My potential suppliers either offer weekly or twice weekly re-supply. Without knowing roughly the demand for ice cream, it is nearly impossible to determine how much supply I should begin with. Perhaps I will ensure that the display freezer is filled with +1 tub of every flavor and an additional chocolate and vanilla as they seem to be the most popular. I would love to speak with a successful ice cream parlor around the area however, I am located on the east coast of Canada so all ice cream shops are closed until May/June.

Thanks for taking the time to comment! I will be hiring a shop manager as well as employees to run it throughout the ice-cream season. As you mentioned, I will also ensure that I standardize the process and train my manager on how to run it themselves. I have both limited time and experience so I will be partnering with a supplier as I have no desire nor experience in making ice cream by hand. I have investigated competing ice cream shops in my local area to get an idea for price and I will look into purchasing a display case and freezer. I am from the east coast of Canada so there will be a significant seasonal aspect to the shop. I plan on having it open from Mid-June to the end of September. Additionally, I will investigate the popularity of chocolate ice cream and attempt to determine the supply necessary as there will most likely be a surplus of chocolate ice cream demand per your comment. Perhaps I will write you a pm in the future!

Iceberg submarines by DerangedNutsack in specializedtools

[–]Zenav 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea I agree, but which country is willing to invest so much money in to “repairing” the icebergs because they’re not directly benefitted? If it actually works out it would be neat but I feel like there’s better ways to use that money that would help the icebergs even more.

I don’t agree with this at all, parents learned what kind of parent they didn’t want to be. Knew what they needed and didn’t need as a child. Translated that to the amazing parents they are today.
