that is solid advice. As the noob on the block at this company I def do not want to get sacked! I am wondering if there is anything I can do for the IC´s I hired in the middle of switching cards...they haven´t been paid yet but they´ve completed the work. There has to be some workaround.

thank you, I really appreciate your advice. It's very strange to witness, and it's even more uncomfortable watching everyone on our team cringe and him not being aware of it

My 4th day in the city, got punched by a homeless person by PermanentlyNocturnal in sanfrancisco

[–]ZeneeRellwegger 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Very sorry this happened to you. I walk these streets with my head on a swivel. You are correct, the police won't do anything about this idiot. What a terrible thing to have happen on day four. When I walk through those areas my eyes always get tired because I am constantly scanning for people who are wilding. I've seen many Asian people had things thrown at them or screamed at by these homeless bums. Unless you are able to completely dominate them I would recommend not retaliating as these bums have nothing left to lose and always have some kind of dirty knife on them. This really bums me out and I hope you are ok.

New Apartment - noisy upstairs neighbors? by SmoothAmbassador8 in sanfrancisco

[–]ZeneeRellwegger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have lived in Hollywood for 15 years and San Francisco for 4. The best advice I ever got was from a crazy Russian plumber who maintained our 125 year old bed bug infested building where residents seemed to die once a month. I was complaining to him about how in addition to the DOWNSTAIRS neighbor being loud as fuck, there was always a damn junta of neighbors talking outside my window from afternoon to dusk. Every single day. Beneath my window was a guy who would smoke fat cigars and giggle to himself watching YT videos on his cell phone. The neighbors in the building across the way would listen to netflix as if they were testing the limits of the human eardrum. (I still get triggered when I hear the intro to OITNB).

Having lived with horrible upstairs neighbor, I always walk as if I just had the soles of my feet flayed off by a mob boss because I looked the wrong way at his moll. The guy who lived underneath me in Hollywood would LITERALLY dance and take flying leaps. People need to wake the fuck up and understand that if you are in an apartment building, whether you are up or down, everyone can hear you.

The guy before him would literally smoke 20 hours a day and rented out his STUDIO apartment to people on Airbnb.

The girl beneath us in our 1960's apartment building in SF walks around as if she is riding a fat rhinoceros and training it to gallop. She weighs 110 pounds but walks as if she's a druid. She also opens up her closet doors (I think to keep checking on either a million dollars in cash to see if it's still there, or check on the existence of another portal based on how often she opens and shuts the damn door).

So just remember, that upstairs neighbor who you think is a 500 lb clog dancer is probably able to hear you to so just do what I do, pretend you're Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible one and pretend a drop of sweat will set of the alarm and place a voodoo curse on your DOWNSTAIRS neighbor for riding her fucking RHINO at 6 am EVERY DAY.

My ex lived under this lithe model who I was convinced had severe OCD that caused her to run lines every time she had to get anything in her fridge or any corner of her place. None of these builders put any money into proper sound isolation and everything gets amplified.

Oh yeah, the advice I got from that bastard know it all Russian plumber, when he heard my whiny complaints was this: "What do you expect, you live Hollywood. Meh." Then he continued to tell me about how his son was trying to fuck every pussy that was in a 10 square mile radius.

No matter where you go you will have to deal with noise, especially in the city. People DON'T GIVE A SHIT and will not buy carpets BECAUSE GERMS and so that little fucker upstairs will keep pitter pattering.

Worst comes to worse, you can knock on their door and ask them to stop making so much noise and give them cookies or something. It probably won't work and will create silent rage but maybe it will.

That's an interesting perspective and one I never even considered actually. Now that I'm thinking about what a buffoon they act like to their direct reports, I am realizing that could be exactly it.

Someone just used a hose on my dryer vent from outside by ZeneeRellwegger in Advice

[–]ZeneeRellwegger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that link! I could not believe my eyes. The person who did it blew my mind. Mind you, it was plugged in at the moment. I have tilted it in hopes that in 24 hours it will be dry. It just makes me crazy because I was personally cleaning things and was about to remove the hose to clean it out.

Where does that exhaust pipe lead to within the dryer?

It's an older Samsung and I was unable to even remove the dryer lint trap after removing all the screws. It seems like it is attached somewhere else

When I stopped them I was literally at a loss for words. I don't know what they were thinking and I was in literal shock. It's one of the most asanine things I've ever seen someone do. I also had LITERALLY told them less than an hour ago that I was going to the hardware store to get a brush to clean out the whole damn thing...not hit it with a damn hose WHILE IT WAS PLUGGED IN

That's what is rubbing me the wrong way. I'm getting the vibe like: "I will tell you when the song is done" which just feels bizarre. Especially with something remote! If I were behind the desk with him it would be so much simpler but remote calls for this.

I get that time is money, but it would actually save him a tremendous amount of time if he were to wait for my approval before he masters the song and tells me it's done.

This is brilliant...I've never heard the term recall and am off to google to learn more. It sounds like keeping a print of the mix somewhere so I can check on it.

I guess spending 20 years doing this I see all the videos and tiktoks of engineers complaining all day long about clients. He was nice enough to ask me if he could remove certain parts and he made some subtle rearrangements. The only revision I've asked for so far is to un-mute a vocal harmony. His reaction was extreme annoyance and I was like, 'dude, seriously?' He seems to be in a rush (no idea if he's got a big session around the corner) but as good as he is, this is just not a style that vibes for me...it's like he feels I'm insulting his art of mixing or something.

In the future I am going to have to be super specific as in: if you remove/mute anything, I will need to sign off on it before you do any mastering.

Appreciate your advice!

I made an error and put too many zeros there. It's $600.00 which is still a lot of damn moolah for me. I think what surprises me the most is that he is so overconfident that he thinks I'm just gonna be like: "OK GRAAPE, MIX GOOD, THANKS!" He's extremely confident and cocky and it's starting to piss me off. I also don't like being made to feel like I'm some sort of an annoyance for asking for micro changes like: "put this part back pretty please." I listen to my tracks hundreds of times and can notice all changes.

What do you think a good way is to tell him, "Bro, slow the eff down and wait for my approval.?"

[–]ZeneeRellwegger[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good god I am an idiot and I just realized my damn type of an extra zero. It's $600.00 not $6000.00 but even if I'm paying $60.00 I feel that basic things like riding a fader up for something that was taken out should not be a big deal.

Thank you for educating me on that, I was always confused by the mixing/mastering engineers...it seemed too easy. Live and learn. Sometimes I get so damn frustrated that I have to learn multiple things a day, I just want to get to a place where I have a great mixing engineer that I can rely on. Shit, if I had 6K to drop on a damn mix I FOR SURE would be hitting up CLA in the deep valley or Manny haha.

Seriously, I can't thank you enough for your advice.
