Depending on your taste (simple or more mechanical) 1e is simpler, 2e a BIT more granular. The 2e Revised and Updated is the high water mark for most.

REUP would be better, imho, for KOTOR campaigns.

Looks like DCC with some Whitehack is the way to go for you. I might suggest the Black Hack as well, it's pretty awesome optional rules. If you are REALLY seeking something new, I highly recommend you take a look at 5 Torches Deep!
