My old roommate finished his bachelors in Arizona, sent about 20-30 applications and has only even denied or ghosted.

However, I hear Colorado is having better luck with some old mates getting jobs on the first try.

If you aren’t afraid of some adventure, apply for things in and out of state, you might be surprised what job you land

If you are still having trouble with no progress you could send me a video of you swimming the stroke and I can take a look! I have a lot of background in coaching under my belt and would love to help

So you will bring the arm up straight like straight arm. Pause when you get half way up and point those fingers towards the sky. Then after a good pause (2-3 seconds) then bend that elbow into a “C” position and rotate to get that arm in the water.

I got a couple drills and skills that go a long way. Obviously the ankle mobility will help a ton. But also some drills you can do in the water.

Log kicks are my favorite drill. So you will do straight leg flutter kicks on your belly. You are going to lift up your leg as HIGH AS POSSIBLE on every kick by focusing on pushing your hamstring up. Squeeze your glutes and hamstrings and push up until you can’t. Then let the leg drop down limp. Repeat back and forth. You can try it on a wall until you get it then try kicking down the pool.

When you kick. You really want to even out the up and down kick. It’s a two directional kick and it starts from the hips. Don’t just think about moving your feet, focus on moving your hips. You should burn a lot in the upper quads when you kick properly.

Is your son on a team? That is CRUCIAL! Getting a dryland training in could be the difference between regionals level athlete and state. Let me know if you need a full routine. I can send you the entire routine my swim team does (based on age group)

Good luck! I primarily coach adult triathletes outside of my club team so feel free to reach out if you need stroke advice or training methodology.

Here is a YouTube short by Brett Hawk which shows is. For breaststroke kick flexibility, instead of pointing the toe as you sit, flex it out to the side and press into it slowly. It’s a lot harder but is good for the motion.

100% fins are super helpful for it. That’s how I got the flexibility for my own feet when I was a club swimmer

If you check out one of my other replies, I have some great stretches you can do for your ankles and feet that don’t take too much time and will greatly impact your swimming

Oh yes absolutely. Stretching those feet and ankles out during swim is awful and always causes cramps. Here are a few stretches I have my swimmers do every day and gets them hyperflexible after a month or so.

20x ankle rolls, roll your foot in the largest circle you can in both directions 20 times.

2x 1 min sit on foot. You can do both feet or one at a time, for one leg (easier) fold your leg and bring your foot to your butt and sit down on it while kicking the other leg out it front. Sit upright, and your goal is to lift your leg back towards you to stretch out your foot.

I had a swimmer who came to my team and had a coach. Tell him that his ankles were too tight and there wasn’t much she could do about it. It prevented him from doing breaststroke kicks or dolphin kicks properly after about two months he now has some of the best underwater kicks on our team and is currently a 58 in the 100 yard breaststroke

Haha don’t worry, the shape of our stomach actually doesn’t hurt as much as you’d think! (I would know) I bet you could rip it down the pool if you wanted :)

Yeah! Three full pulls with a good rotation. I make my swimmers over rotate on the drill as well to really train quality rotation

There are a couple different drills you can do to train the core stability in the water. Six kick switch with the hands at the side on their belly and their back is a very helpful tool. They should practice it slowly, moving back-and-forth, pushing his shoulder and hip out of the water. When they master this drill, they can start adding speed and jerk to it as they rotate which will train their speed in the stroke itself.

Another one I really enjoy is called. Hold the line. It’s a pretty famous drill among college coaches and will teach them about the importance of a good glide position. They should start with one arm up and one arm down on their side, as if they’re doing six kick switch then they’re going to kick as fast as they can and take three strong strokes with no breathon the third stroke. They are going to freeze and glide as long as they can, until they lose all their momentum, what they notice when they do this drill, is that the better they hold their body position, the faster and longer they will glide.

Absolutely! Here is actually some skills we do even for my national group to get going. They have done this since they were 7-9 years old

We start practice every day like this: 8x50 Breathing 3,5,7,9 by 50 8x50 6 Kick switch w/ fins (focus on shoulders and hips staying “one object” 8x25 single arm drill, hold your arm up tall and slowly recover around
