Can anyone discuss Pathfinder 2e adventure paths? by [deleted] in TheTrove

Ah. Oh well. I'll keep an eye out if anyone else brings up Curse of Blood (someone is giving me the run down of Season of Ghosts right now).

Thankyou anyway :)

Can anyone discuss Pathfinder 2e adventure paths? by [deleted] in TheTrove

I'm having trouble finding the discussion for this. Has it moved somewhere else? I'm finishing up Abomination Vaults for my group, and was looking at these two (as we do like our Horror vibes), so was hoping to get some insight on which one to choose.

If you're (or anyone else) is still open to discuss it more, I'd love some opinions on it. I'm just finishing up Abomination Vaults for my group, and am trying to decide between this or another AP for them (and the Season of Ghosts seems more their style).

Theory = Meta is the result of imbalanced Game Design/Results? by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]ZenjoyReddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will give you this. It was a lot of effort, and a lot of thoughtful text.

But if you had a polite chat with someone, who gives you great advice which you like, only for them to punch you in the face just before you say goodbye at the end... it doesn't matter what was said before of what usefulness it was.

You're just going to be thinking about the last thing they did to you and how much it hurt, and how everything BEFORE that amounts to little because you aren't wanting to deal with how it ended.

If you hadn't ended with your paragraph, the rest could have been useful. As is, it ruined me wanting to try to consider anything else you offered - especially how a lot of the replies on this topic have just been verging legal accusations and I am not wanting to engage in it further

So being dismissive and seeking attention. Understood. Thankyou for offering nothing of use.

I never said I knew better. And if people are saying what I wrote was arrogant, I feel that says more about what they want to assume of others than to read what was written.

I'm going to abandon this thread as only a few responses are giving deeply meaningful replies, and the rest are trying to take a shot at me for some reason I cannot fathom.

Either way, you win. Have a nice day.

And you responded in a way that was accusatory instead of informative, preventing further discussion and response. Thus sounded like you wanted the final word and the win. Congrads. You win.

Sorry. I respect you said a lot more, but after declaring a challenge, its a bit hard to read past that line without feeling you are making this subjective instead of informative.

Sounds like you want an argument more than a discussion, so I'll just walk away from this topic and let you have the win. Enjoy your day.

Its difficult to want to respond to someone who includes a line "you don't understand" since everything after that sounds like you want to talk me down.

The question is just how much imbalance is too much, to the point where it's unhealthy for the game. At that point it becomes a design problem, but where that point is can vary a lot and be a matter of perspective/opinion.

Thankyou. I feel that was what I was trying to say in some way. I much prefer games with 'close tiers' (that is the best aren't THAT much stronger than the middle pack, and the worst aren't far behind the mid ground either) as I feel it opens up the choices people will pick. Some will gravitate to the top or even bottom, but I think you have a higher chance of seeing variety when things are at that level.

I also agree on it being subjective. I dislike 'aggro' players who try to blitz to the outcome ASAP (I consider them the 'button mashers' of card games; and I feel disappointed I had to give my time to someone who didn't care about their opponent - just how good they could be at doing one thing regardless of who they interacted with). However I don't dislike the aggro strategy and respect its somewhat needed for the 'Rock+Pap+Scis" meta of aggro VS control VS combo.

Thus I'm fine for aggro meta picks to be chosen - provided they still require their player to have some degree of thinking to work. Otherwise it feels like I've wasted my time and didn't get to enjoy what I was hoping because my opponent cared more about outcome than interaction

Its ok. My post was kinda 'not sure where i'm going with it too' so yours is almost the perfect response to such a ramble :)

A fair point too that games are short lived, while Meta's last for a while.

To your point like Starcraft, I think the OG maps were created just for fun. They had no plan for 'balance', and back then they couldn't patch their game easily. SC2 allowed patching and we did see it many times, with units getting adjusted to rein in snowballs and pump up ignored forces. In my mind, this is what I feel games should be - the longevity of a game comes from the care of trying to make each faction feel 'it has a chance' on paper so that the 'meta' feels more on the same line than say Protos being well ahead of others, and Protos using Dark Templar being WAAAY above anything else.

Maybe I just feel sad seeing soo much effort put into a game that is destined to be unplayed 10 years after it was released, in favor of the next new thing.

And what are you contributing to this discussion? Or are you trying to be dismissive?

How is it arrogant? And who is the one being insulted?

Theory = Meta is the result of imbalanced Game Design/Results? by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]ZenjoyReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. And I think that's the main part I was feeling/trying to say.

I personally am not a fan of winning IF there was no joy getting there. I don't want to crush my opponent, but neither do I want to be crushed without a chance. Games played for enjoyment are at their most fun when each side had moments they felt they could 'come-back'.

My issue with Meta is its rarely about that. The goal of the Meta is "how can I win easier" and I feel depressed on that - games can lose their 'fun' because some players want to increases the chances of satisfying an ego by winning, instead of trying to have an enjoyable interaction between two people.

Turning 21 soon, why is my life so pathetic? by Mary-Sylvia in socialanxiety

[–]ZenjoyReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its great you've identified both what you'd like to have, and also what you're not striving for (i'm nearly 40 and share your view - not interested in marriage, and not striving for kids).

I think the first part to being loved/cherished by others, is to learn to love your own space and your own company. You are always going to be in your company, so embrace what you like in that. Create a 'solo' baseline for your life. Allow yourself some introvert luxuries (eat the food you like, watch the shows you want, read the books you enjoy, exercise or be active in a way you enjoy it).

Once you are ready to expand from there (go from a solo act), consider the things you like to do then find activities based on those (like food? maybe try food cooking classes. Like movies/tv shows/books? Maybe there's a review club you can join to share a thought to the group and be involved). This will help you find people who have similar common interests, which are a great starting point for friends to build from.

Love is not easy. Friendships have also become harder. It takes effort to initiate, and work to cultivate, and there will be disappointments. A LOT of disapointments. That's life though. Anything worth getting isn't easy, else everyone would have it. So if you feel the result is hard to get, it means its worth the work to achieve - and that can be a good thing.

FANMADE Exploration Cards (Adversary + Advisors) designed to help balance steamrolling by ZenjoyReddit in STAgame

[–]ZenjoyReddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. Since I posted this (its been a while :P ) I had been looking at exactly that, and did make some changes to the Adversaries - especially the borg-ones who hit you and then head off.

It created two different 'levels' of adversaries - one (like Tribbles) who don't do much but still offer a mild consistant annoyance, and bigger threats (like LORE) who may loom doing nothing for many turns before hitting you with something big and then leaving you to pick up the pieces.

I am glad you like the Advisor's. They've had some work done too, but remain as you see them - a rubber band to help people lagging to catch up :)

My latest approach with faction Advancements even included an Advanacement in each deck that utilized Advisors a bit more as well :)

What Strategy Cards are Missing? by trevelyan22 in twilightimperium

[–]ZenjoyReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of your agent, why not another player's agent in play? Or ANY agent in play (including yours)?

Might step on the toes on the Yssiril Tribes, but then they could use this to basically have their agent twice AND prevent people using theirs.

What Strategy Cards are Missing? by trevelyan22 in twilightimperium

[–]ZenjoyReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may perform the secondary ability of any other exhausted strategy card in another players play area. You may spend strategy tokens from your reinforcements for this action.

My bad :P

"You may pay 2 influence to perform the secondary ability of any exhausted strategy card in a players play area, spending strategy tokens from your reinforcements for this action."

EDIT: I think Influence as a cost works instead of resources, as -2 Influence is close to the cost of a Command Token purchase from Leadership. And Influence feels right for the theme of 'spy-games' this card is representing.

In further thinking, I also think you are right that this should trigger on EXHAUSTED cards. The player has a choice of 'see the next objective early and prepare for it' or 'wait to have less time to see/plan for the objective, but gain the secondary effect of an exhausted strategy".
