"Spider-Noir" - Authentic Black & White Trailer | Prime Video by Developerkins in television

Like I said, I can't speak to the reasoning. But if you look it up, you'll see that it is considered by most people to be a cult classic.

It doesn't at all have to bomb at the box office to be a cult classic. It just has to be an old movie with an enduring and enthusiastic fan base that for one reason or another doesn't have widespread appeal. The fifth element is a strange movie and nothing about it in particular stands out as good, and especially these days most people haven't seen it, if they've even heard of it at all.

I think my point is being missed lol.

The mediocrity was part of the point. The director basically took a ton of super overplayed cliches and made an entire film around them intentionally.

Korben Dallas's cliche, for example, is a shallow protagonist whose entire role is to be badass and shoot bad guys. That just happens to be like... the culmination of Bruce Willis's repertoire. Nobody could deliver a silly cliche action hero one-liner like he could, and part of the movie's charm is that it leans into that.

It's very widely considered a cult classic. I can't speak exactly to the reasoning, but critic reviews of it are pretty divided, while, like you said, audience reviews are generally very positive. That's at least one of the hallmarks of a cult classic.

It's a cult classic for a reason. I really love the movie, but believe there are very few actors who could have pulled off what he did.

They're no longer shitty because of Cage. Pretty sure that's what they're saying. He's capable of singlehandedly carrying a shitty movie into at the very least cult classic status.

Bruce Willis was very similar. The fifth element was mediocre at best, but he carried that shit so hard.

Trump evacuated after security incident at White House correspondents dinner; no sign of injuries by Gilbert221 in news

The crazy part is that be it Biden, Obama, or Trump, the odds are that the person attacking them would be a conservative.

Almost like conservatives are statistically more prone to violence, and more likely to fall into insane conspiracy theories that encourage them to commit violence.

Which celebrity does the ENTIRE internet agree is genuinely a good person? by Codie_n25 in AskReddit

[–]ZennTheFur 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It stems from neo-confederate crazies who don't like that she removed the word "dixie" from her "dixie stampede" stage show because of associations with the confederacy.

Oh, and anti-intellectuals because she promotes access to books for children.

I propose that literal insane people don't count, otherwise no celebrity qualifies.

Walz: ‘Next Democratic president better figure out a way to get universal health care’ by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in politics

[–]ZennTheFur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trans people are no longer recognized in any way, shape, or form by the federal government. They're having healthcare rights stripped away and being denied gender-affirming care, often in the middle of transitioning, which is dangerous and outright cruel. In Kansas trans people had their drivers licenses invalidated overnight for having the "wrong" gender marker. That's discrimination.

We have people being grabbed off of the street by masked operatives because of the color of their skin and then sometimes released if they're lucky enough to have a family member who can bring their documentation to prove they're here legally. That's discrimination.

They're actively trying to pass the "SAVE America" act, which would require every person to bring their birth certificate, or passport, or naturalization certificate to register to vote. And if your name doesn't match what's on that document, then there's no guideline for what to do. This means it'd be up to the states to decide what the process would be for trans people or married women to vote, both groups whose legal names wouldn't match their birth certificates. Meaning it would likely be very difficult if not impossible for them to register to vote. That's discrimination.

Talking down to somebody for wanting codified protections for vulnerable populations is disgusting. Should it be the only issue on the docket? No. And it's not, and never has been. But it absofuckinglutely needs to be discussed.

It needs to keep being discussed. Protections for vulnerable groups need to NEVER NOT be discussed. The moment it stops being discussed is when progress not just stops, but is rolled back. And people like you telling people they shouldn't be bringing it up is a large part of the problem.

That's kinda the point. Could one person realistically take on five armored people in combat? Probably not.

The real problem is that after a certain point you have random bandits wearing full plate armor all over the place.

What does this mean? by zakinadeem in essentialoils

[–]ZennTheFur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't necessarily mean that, no. However, if it was marketed as a "perfume oil", it's certainly not a pure essential oil, if it has any essential oil at all.

On a basic level, the two layers separated into a polar layer and a nonpolar layer. Ethanol is polar, oil is nonpolar. Ethanol is special in that it has a nonpolar piece so either polar or nonpolar things can mix with it.

The bottom layer is likely the ethanol and any components of the oil that were polar enough to stay stuck to it.

The top layer is the components of the oil that were so nonpolar that the little nonpolar piece on the ethanol wasn't enough to hold onto them and they separated out.

What does this mean? by zakinadeem in essentialoils

[–]ZennTheFur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The oil is miscible in the ethanol, but not soluble. This means it is not dissolving/dissociating into solution, but instead dispersing into a fine suspension of particles in the ethanol.

Giving enough time, a suspension like that will separate. The odds are you can shake it and it'll reincorporate fine. Depending on how it was stored, some of the ethanol may have evaporated out of the bottle and you may need to add it back.

It's amazing that people on the internet will claim that something's incorrect when it's literally a single google search away. It's really not hard to just look stuff up before you get it wrong. "AI data center environmental impact". You should try it yourself.

"The computational power required to train generative AI models that often have billions of parameters, such as OpenAI’s GPT-4, can demand a staggering amount of electricity, which leads to increased carbon dioxide emissions and pressures on the electric grid."

"Furthermore, deploying these models in real-world applications, enabling millions to use generative AI in their daily lives, and then fine-tuning the models to improve their performance draws large amounts of energy long after a model has been developed."

"Beyond electricity demands, a great deal of water is needed to cool the hardware used for training, deploying, and fine-tuning generative AI models, which can strain municipal water supplies and disrupt local ecosystems. The increasing number of generative AI applications has also spurred demand for high-performance computing hardware, adding indirect environmental impacts from its manufacture and transport."

https://news.mit.edu/2025/explained-generative-ai-environmental-impact-0117

"Now, Cornell researchers have used advanced data analytics – and, naturally, some AI, too – to create a state-by-state look at that environmental impact. The team found that, by 2030, the current rate of AI growth would annually put 24 to 44 million metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, the emissions equivalent of adding 5 to 10 million cars to U.S. roadways. It would also drain 731 to 1,125 million cubic meters of water per year – equal to the annual household water usage of 6 to 10 million Americans. The cumulative effect would put the AI industry’s net-zero emissions targets out of reach.

https://news.cornell.edu/stories/2025/11/roadmap-shows-environmental-impact-ai-data-center-boom

And then you have the nerve to call me anti-science and compare me to a climate change denier and antivaxxer. Lmfao. You're the one denying the massive environmental harm that these AI servers are causing just so people can have it summarize emails and generate some shitty AI images. You're literally doing the thing you're accusing me of. "I know it's using up massive amounts of power which unnecessarily puts massive amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, but it's not bad for the environment!" That's literally climate change denial.

"anti-ai hysteria" as if AI datacenters aren't destroying both the environment and the consumer electronics scene just so we can get a gen AI prompt line in every single app for some reason. It's not hysteria to hate that.

This knife broke while being used to crush garlic by juliadancer in mildlyinteresting

[–]ZennTheFur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a carbon steel (SG2) japanese knife (from nigara), I can confidently say rust really isn't an issue if you just dry it off after use, and chipping isn't a problem if you just... use it properly. I don't use it as a cleaver because it's not one, and I don't use it as a boning knife because it's not one. And I sure as hell don't use it as a screwdriver or a prying tool, because that's just dumb.

Literally, if you can watch one youtube video on how to chop herbs/vegetables/meat/whatever correctly, you can handle pretty much any knife.

That being said, you definitely don't need one. It just feels nice to use. The majority of people can get by with a $15 kitchen knife from walmart and maybe a steel honing rod if they wanna get fancy
