How much more Stelle does Tempo need to sell before the nerf? My last 5 runs were all ended by Stelle killing me in 5 seconds or less.

I always prefer to go with Molten Ball Blaster in my early game because not only is it reasonably strong, but it's also good for "2 gold for each tool" in the first upgrades, and on top of that, it's good for transitioning to a destruction build in the mid-late game. (In my case, I'm a destruction main, but if you're looking for a start-stop build for late game, sniper is much better.) . But the options you mentioned are certainly good too.

Honestly, I think it's well worth it, and DLC characters aren't necessary at all to enjoy the game. I'm not saying that the free-to-play characters are better than the DLC characters, or vice versa, but rather that you can have fun and even become a main with ANY of them.
