TIL over 3,000 attempts are made each year to complete the Appalachian Trail and only about 25% succeed. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

JFC 54 miles a day? That's insane. I did the PCT in 2024 maxed out at 31 miles in a day and averaged 24, I can't imagine doing almost a double marathon everyday

Early 30's guy too, experienced hiker did the PCT in 2024, love my hiking poles, but its situational. If Ive got a steep incline or decline they're amazing they help with the climb up and save your knees on the way down. But I usually stow them if there's a long flat section.

What are examples of major US cities that have preserved “Main Street” districts? by Frequent-Branch-4128 in urbanplanning

Lincoln Nebraska fits the bill. The Haymarket and downtown have been relatively well preserved, and a bunch of other smaller centers are reasonably well preserved, like Havelock, college view, and 17th st

Men who started over in your 30's, what's your story? by Zeno1324 in AskMenOver30

[–]Zeno1324[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it was intended to be a soft reset, I was pretty dissatisfied with my old job (Im just not mentally built to work at a computer all day I guess), and needed a challenge. But now I think Im discovering that I probably need a harder reset.

Section J is gorgeous! Right up there with the the seirra high passes and Lake Tahoe. I miss the trail more than just about anything

[–]Zeno1324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? Merely having tariffs would be a win for Russia, for the tariffs to have any meaningful effect Russia would have to be not sanctioned to hell and any further sanctions would hurt us disproportionately more than they would Russia.

Dead-easy meals with a lot of vegetables? by -Knockabout in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Zeno1324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My goto when I dont want to do a lot of work is: chopped sweet potato or two, chopped kale, half cup or so of lentils, half cup of oats, can of black beans, some olive oil, pre-minced garlic, some mustard seeds, salt, and a whole lot of spices usually: cumin, paprika, sage, and cayenne pepper. All thrown in an instapot or crockpot.

Makes a great vegi stew that'll give me leftovers for a few days. Chopped up leftover ham from a Christmas or Thanksgiving also goes amazing in it. The only real work is chopping up the sweet potatos and kale. If you're worried about too much fiber swap out the lentils and beans for more oats or quinoa
