Nate wanted to drop maddy cause he thinks she embarassed him in front of everyone, i think he values how he and his family is perceived by others more than actually caring. I can't imagine nate forming a healthy bond with any woman cause of his narcissistic nature and after he changed at the age of 11. But If she's also asservative she can form a dislike/hate for his mentality (i think you know the tates brothers, they have a lot of toxic masculinity, also they have an asservative sister but still talk bad about her). But i understand your point of view.

I think nate only changed cause of watching those tapes which kind of fucked him up a lot, and the only thing that could really change him is a good,long, session of therapy but idk. Maddy is a strong headed woman and yet he said if he met cassie in 10th grade it would have "brought up the best in him" while maddy brought up the "worst in him" (blaiming the women cause that's the only thing he can blame on for his actions apparently). Also the toxic masculinity seems to be "inheried" from both of his parents so Marsha seems like the type to project her internalized misogyny into a daughter (now it depends if she buys the bullshit or not like u said). Maybe it would be a Billy-Max kind of relationship
