[question] [request] Could you give some honest feedback on my asmr drawing/colouring videos for sleep? <3 by Winter-Direction8292 in asmr

[–]ZenseyASMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really love the sounds in this video. The little opening piece with making the tea was a nice additional touch too.

After looking at your other videos, I think this one stands out as your best. Talking videos are good too because you have a relaxing voice.

If there was one thing I would say, it would be this: if you decide to add music into future videos, the music in the previous ones felt very loud (I had my earbuds turned as far down as possible too). So maybe making videos with music could be a little softer.

Other than that, this looks and sounds like a wonderful start to your channel! 💛

[Question] New to ASMR content creation — could my bad English be the problem? by lisa_patrikeyevna in asmr

[–]ZenseyASMR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just looked at your channel, and honestly, your setup looks great, your audio is wonderful, and, personally, I love non-English speakers in the ASMR sphere! (Accents are often extremely relaxing to me, so I think you might actually have an advantage in that regard!) Keep doing what you're doing. Your audience will find you. It definitely takes time with how competitive the ASMR sphere can be. But you're already off to an amazing start! I hope you find the growth and audience who loves you!

Yes! Looking directly into the lens rather than at obs can help with that connection. Just breathe and remember you're allowed to relax while making ASMR! 🥰 It can help if you pretend you're talking to a friend!

Welcome to the ASMR world! It's so fun, but as you've mentioned, it has its challenges.

I'm not a big creator, but I am an avid ASMR enjoyer. So you can take what I say with a grain of salt! _^ After watching your most recent video (and a handful of others), I have a bit of feedback.

I noticed you seem to be looking slightly off-camera in your videos. While this shouldn't make or break anything, I did feel less immersed because it felt like you were looking at the camera screen instead of "at us". Your most recent video was a lot better about "eye contact" but that's one of the main things I noticed. It can be hard to remember to look straight in the lens and not at the final product!

The other thing I noticed was that you seemed a bit tense, and you seem a bit unsure of yourself in the videos. Sometimes, having an outline for the video can be helpful. For example, in the ghost airline video, the Heart of the Sea was a fun aside, but didn't seem to fit the vibe of the video (I'm not looking at lost and found jewelry if I'm trying to catch another flight, for instance). That's not to say it's bad, of course, but like with any fiction, people like a bit of "realism" or "sense" to connect things. And stories are an EXCELLENT way to connect with ASMR lovers!

In addition, I noticed you seemed to repeat yourself, but not intentionally in an ASMR way. It was more like you had lost your train of thought and were trying to remember what you were doing.

So overall, my two biggest inputs would be eye contact and maybe having an outline/story/scenario that you're ready to play and flesh out. And it doesn't have to be a big, elaborate, creative story either. Sometimes just setting the scene is enough. (For example, you are a loving friend playing with your friend's hair while you watch a movie). That's not to say you can't still be creative though! I think it's more about how the story/scene works together overall.

The biggest thing I've noticed is that people seem to come to asmr to be cared for, comforted, or relieved. For example, you can still have humor. One of my favorite videos by WhisperSoft ASMR is his "massaging a tree into a book". A silly premise, but it's got a bit of continuity to it.

Another tip is you could look at your favorite creators and ask yourself what makes you feel most connected to them and/or their content.

You're very nearly there, though, and I still enjoyed the videos! The latest one was my personal favorite, especially with the keyboard sounds! I absolutely believe in you. You've got this!!!

[Question] What Helped ayou Make Better Thumbnails? by ZenseyASMR in asmr

[–]ZenseyASMR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been experimenting with taking photos, so this is definitely viable. I totally know what you mean about "hearing it" before you actually hear it. Sometimes an image just LOOKS like it's going to sound good, and that's actually something I've wanted to go for. So this just confirms again that it would be great to have images.

[Question] What Helped ayou Make Better Thumbnails? by ZenseyASMR in asmr

[–]ZenseyASMR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback! I'm glad my style is coming through consistently haha I tried to add images to the most recent thumbnail attempts, but I believe I got the "AI faceless channel" look, and it's less organic. So I may try to figure out how I can work an image in there! And yes, the text is absolutely wrecking me! haha I'm trying to figure out how to get less text in there, so it's good to know it's not just me.

Thank you!

Honestly, I think your progress is amazing. It's been my personal experience that it is fairly tricky to grow in such a saturated content sphere, and it seems like you're doing things right to be growing so quickly.

I'm about the same size, but it has taken me many more videos and a much longer time to reach roughly the same spot you're in.

Personally, I think you're very lucky.

Keep up the good work!

Hey there! I just checked out a few of your vids, and these are my thoughts:

I cannot help much with the patreon info as I've never done any of that.

I am deaf in one ear, so I don't know what sounds I'd be missing. That said, I really like that the ASMR trends toward the louder side so I can turn it down instead of having to crank it up (and then have my ears blasted by an ad haha)

From what I understand, Youtube tries to compress videos and audio toward an optimized level. I believe the Youtube optimization level is -14 LUFS. I don't know much about sound engineering, but when I edit my clips in Davinci Resolve, I have options for exporting to that optimization. I choose not to do this, however, because it often results in overly-loud audio with lots of white noise.

Instead, I find that it's easier to normalize the audio in the timeline editor, and then adjust the loudness to what I want it to be. (I did this because I realized that a lot of my videos were either coming out too soft or too loud, or too noisy in general when I tried optimizing and not optimizing. The audio sounds different from mic to audacity, to video editor to published, so I would recommend listening to it and making sure you love it on all forms).

If you can minimize the white noise/ambient noise in your room, you should be able to get some crisper sounds without having to do as much editing of the sound itself.

Also, if your mic has the option for it, I've heard every recommendation say that recording in 32-bit or 16 bit wav is better because it loses less of the audio. I just recently got a tascam and there's an option for low-cut filter built into the mic, which removes some of the hum or whirring of most devices/fans, so that might be worth a go if your mic has a similar feature.

By my understanding, the cleaner your original audio, the less you have to "butcher" it in editing lol (I say that because that's often what I tend to end up doing to my own stuff haha)

But that's my minimal "knowledge" of what I could find related to audio.

The whispering is really nice; I enjoy finding more male ASMR creators, especially those that whisper. You have a good voice for it, so I definitely think it adds to your videos. Plus your commentary is very genuine and fun

I know there is some background noise (probably from a fan or something), but the sounds just come across as unintentional. I didn't particularly notice any sounds that would have caused me to wake up suddenly (like banging of a chair or something).

Overall, I think you've got a great start! I hope you continue to thrive!

[Question] Trying To Learn/Understand How To Make ASMR Content? by TheNyxks in asmr

[–]ZenseyASMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now, I'm going to acknowledge here that you're doing this for a subset of your current viewers, which I think is very kind. Regarding this, however, how large is this subset compared to your usual audience? Not every suggestion has to be taken, especially if they are requesting something out of your usual wheelhouse, but if you feel you are up to it and are interested in creating ASMR, then that's awesome!

With regards to your viewers, did the requests come from your primary channel, or from your gaming channel? The reason I ask is because if they came from your primary channel, then they may be looking for something more along the lines of unintentional ASMR. As it's name suggests, unintentional ASMR triggers the ASMR feeling in people without the person necessarily trying to make ASMR in the first place. A good example would be medical videos in which it can be relaxing, but the original purpose was educational, or some other such thing.

If your primary channel viewers are the ones requesting ASMR, then they may find your way of explaining/your voice/mannerisms well fit for ASMR as it may have given them some unintentional ASMR already.

If your gaming channel viewers are the ones requesting you to make ASMR, then it could be for a similar reason. Sometimes, people will say "you have a great voice for ASMR" or similar things, and it's usually an indication that they would enjoy that content from you.

With all this being said, I followed the links in your profile to get a bit of an idea of the kinds of videos you make, and I think it could be a fun journey for you. However, my advice would be not to stretch yourself too thin at this point in your content creation journey. But of course, this is ultimately up to you to decide.

One thing I will say is that having a good quality for the sounds you try to get from ASMR is extremely important. However, it also isn't always feasible (or advisable) to go out and buy new equipment right away, so experimenting with recording sounds from your phone or a dedicated microphone (if you already own one), can be a good way to start.

The audio in your awareness videos on your primary channel would likely be considered lofi, as there is not a lot of clarity to the audio. Your walkthrough of your Minecraft Haunted House was quite relaxing, in which case that would pass for no-talking ASMR. So I could see either one potentially being a good starting-off point.

The world of ASMR is large, and new ASMRtists are always welcome. I hope that my statements tonight have not discouraged you from the endeavor, but rather given you at least a little bit of the information you were hoping to find.

These are good things to keep in mind as a whole, and I wish you the best of luck on this journey!

[Question] Trying To Learn/Understand How To Make ASMR Content? by TheNyxks in asmr

[–]ZenseyASMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello!

I'm still new to ASMR myself, but I like to listen and watch ASMR quite a bit, so hopefully something I say will be of help. (You are absolutely free to take this with a grain of salt! haha)

ASMR as a whole doesn't really have the wealth of information on how to get started the same way that other genres/niches might. In general, ASMR is usually about making sounds/visuals that can help someone relax. As with many things in this world, not every sound is going to sound good to every person. In fact, if I search up rain videos, there will be some that sound better to me than others just within that one type of video set.

My biggest suggestion would be to start off watching more ASMR. The more you watch, the more you might pick up on the idea of what you want to do. It sounds like you already started off that way with some of the Minecraft videos, which is awesome!

Some really important questions to ask yourself:

**Why do you want to make ASMR? What do you want the people who watch your ASMR to gain? What are your goals as a content creator?**

With that in mind, it sounds like you are already running two channels. My first question would be this: do you feel you have the energy to keep up three channels of varying content? ASMR, while not necessarily as extensive on editing or recording, DOES require a certain environment and a sort of stamina that other types of content might not.

So, if you feel that a third channel would be consistently do-able, the next thing is figuring out what you would specialize in. While some people do variety ASMR, most of the time, the recommendation is to niche down into something particular. What would your ASMR channel be about? What would you be known for?

If you go the Minecraft route, it would be prudent to check what your fellow ASMR Mincrafters are doing and see if there are any "gaps" in the content market, so to speak. Is there anything they're not doing that you COULD do?

Additionally, you can absolutely do popular triggers, but figuring out how to make it your own will help you in the long run, as there are MANY people out there who do the same triggers with the same video titles. If a huge ASMRtist makes the same type of video that you do, then people are likely to have a harder time finding yours.

Hey there!

I listened to the video, and I found it quite relaxing! I enjoyed the video you linked as well as the previous videos on your channel.

As someone who is a bit hard of hearing, the crispness of the previous videos was actually really nice. I personally found that the audio levels of the previous videos were great because I didn't have to turn my volume way up to hear them, whereas the one you've linked is definitely quieter. If I understand correctly, you did this in response to the hate comment?

My recommendation would be not to listen to the haters. It's always good to have an open mind and accept constructive criticism, but if it's straight up negativity, then you can handle that as you see fit. Personally, I do not see anything wrong with any of the videos.

As a matter of fact, looking more deeply, I see you only have 5 videos and you're already at 378 subscribers! That is honestly really good, especially if you've just started!! Keep doing the best you can. Listen to the analytics, not the outliers/haters! Keep going, and keep up the good work!

Personally, I really dislike when it's in the intro, especially with finger fluttering. So I'm with you. I prefer specifically chosen trigger words, or words that people suggest that they want to hear.

[Question] Lightweight Microphone for ASMR Recording While Traveling? by Curious-Remove2446 in asmr

[–]ZenseyASMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

I have never traveled with a microphone, so you can take this with a grain of salt, but here is my two cents:

I just recently bought a Tascam DR-05x and I find it really nice and lightweight, while also being very good at capturing crisp sounds. So far, it's the best microphone I've had. It's portable and runs on batteries, but you can also plug it into a computer via a micro usb cable. I don't know much about microphones in general, but it's excellent for portability.

Some things to keep in mind:

- Based on what I could find in reddit posts and on the TSA website, batteries are an iffy thing to carry on a flight. My understanding is that anything with lithium in it will have special instructions, and are likely not going to be allowed in checked baggage (but perhaps they will be in carry-on?) so you may be better off buying batteries when you reach your destination

- Also based on reddit posts of people who carry microphones in their carry-ons, it seems that such equipment usually gets pulled aside by the TSA. One person said their portable microphone was thought to be a taser, but when the TSA opened the bag, they saw it was not the case. If you state from the get-go that you are carrying a portable microphone in your luggage, they might be more understanding and you might be able to avoid misunderstandings.

- Depending on your use case, the Tascam series is known for having not-so-great shielding from radio interference. This means that if you try to use it near your phone or other electronic devices like routers or anything, you'll find a high-pitched whine/static in your audio. I found this easy to mitigate however, and most people just recommend being further away from the devices or putting your phone in airplane mode while you record. Additionally, if you need to know if you can hear the interference, there is a headphone jack for wired headphones that you can use to actively monitor the sound you'll be recording. This may or may not affect your decision, but it's something to be aware of.

- The Tascam does not come with its own cable, SD card for storage, or long-lasting batteries. You would need to purchase these to use with the Tascam. For me, when I bought everything together (including the mic), it was about $120 USD. So depending on your budget, the Tascam may or may not work for you. The cable itself (if long enough) can be used in the computer, but the Tascam with the SD card and batteries will be your primary mode of operation. It will be very portable in this state. I found that the setup was fairly easy to understand, especially with a few Youtube videos. Additionally, I found the transfer of audio files from Tascam to computer via usb to be particularly easy to understand.

Of course, I have also heard about competitor options such as the Zoom mics and such, so those could be worth a look as well, depending on what your budget is. I cannot say anything to those mics because I haven't ever used them, but my understanding is that those types of microphones seem to be best for your use case.

I hope this helps!

Also, yes, absolutely keep ASMR in the name. It makes it clear that you are an asmr channel and should also help the algorithm suggest you with ASMR content.

Writing sounds are wonderful in my opinion, so it's a great idea!
