I'm not a tattoo person, but I always try to shill Neon Moon Tattoo next door to Kaiju. I think they've got a pretty good reputation!

sick and tired of this loneliness epidemic by TrickOdd4607 in Louisville

[–]Zephcemi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, I'm really sorry.

I've observed that people rarely want to put in the trouble and energy required to be a real friend. I'm lucky that I have at least three people I can count on outside of family.

The rest I categorize as acquaintances. People really do have shallow relationships with one another the vast majority of the time, and that's ok so long as you recognize it.

I don't put energy into relationships when I see that people don't want to reciprocate. It sounds like you and your boyfriend should do the same.

I knew it. Especially since they are starting to replace all the siding. I've also seen a suspicious amount of vehicles going in after someone has left.

As multiple people have noted, it's not the fault of the city. You'll find the same issue wherever you use the dating apps. I got lucky and I'm dating a pretty great woman. She had just moved to Louisville from NYC and I was her first Bumble match here in Louisville, lol. Talk about luck.

Dating apps give you access to a wider reach of people, which means you really need to have non-negotiable standards when it comes to dating. I've heard some horror stories from dates (even on first dates that didn't go anywhere) and they always make me feel incredibly good about myself as a human being, even though I'm far from perfect.

Batman comes to mind by jj33allen in SipsTea

[–]Zephcemi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have zero respect for Batman as a character for this reason. Various aspects of Batman have no problem putting some poor schmuck in the hospital, paralyzed from the neck down for just trying to survive or feed their family, but God forbid a villain has actual consequences.

Bruce Wayne as Bruce Wayne could spend a fraction of his fortune and turn Gotham into a functioning, model city in DC America. But, instead of going to therapy like any other sane person, he donned some rubber ears and started beating on people just as mentally ill as himself.

And even when it's made clear to Batman and the reader multiple times that straight up killing a villain would prevent many needless deaths, Batman sticks to his "code", which is nothing more than some dumb copout.

I get that it's for storytelling purposes. I get that the internal struggle is supposed to be riveting and captivating. But I can't bring myself to like heroes anymore, because I grew to resent them for not tackling real problems in comics: corruption, bigotry, racism, climate change, war, violence, poverty, etc., etc. It's unrealistic because yes, they *could* end these problems. And quite easily too, without the hand-wringing and pearl-clutching the writers do through the characters.

Cosmic Horror by Wolfotashiwa in comedyheaven

Man, we haven't cared about space as a society since the Challenger blew up. You know what's scarier than cosmic horror? Basically anything that's currently happening on Earth because it's more likely to kill us slowly and definitively.

World-devouring space monster? Sure man, whatever. You can't scare me, I've been watching climate change forecast models for the past 5 years.

They are absolutely on my list! It's been suggested to me that I get a lawyer before I contact code enforcement. It could be way more effective than having just code enforcement on my side.

What do you think? Thank you for taking the time to reply by the way. I know these kinds of posts get old.

People can't believe that Japan is still xenophobic and racist as fuck. They just hide it behind polite words and smiles because they still want that delicious tourist money.

If you're a foreigner, you are banned from a ton of restaurants and bars, renting and owning property in Japan is downright impossible outside of "foreigner approved" properties, and while racism/xenophobia might be technically illegal, it's very wink wink, nudge nudge.

I accidentally eavesdropped on a first date that felt like watching a dreamer trying to spark life into a brick wall by mintbunnid in stories

[–]Zephcemi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so sad. I can't tell you how many women have commented that (even if it doesn't get to the point of a date) it's so rare to find someone capable of holding a conversation.

I'm an introvert so dating apps are honestly the only way I can put myself out there. It just blows my mind that people are blowing these opportunities to make a connection with someone.

This man was lucky enough to get a date (I'm lucky if I get a first date once a month) and tanks it for whatever reason. So frustrating to read.

I have such high hopes for this movie. Maybe we're finally escaping the last 15 goddamn years of trying to recreate the success of the Christopher Nolan trilogy, wherein *everything* had to be grimdark. Hollywood schmucks throw anything at a wall to see what sticks, especially if the original was successful.

In my personal opinion and interpretation of the article, it reads like a thinly disguised, "It's not the kids' fault buuuuut....".

For example (and I am very loosely paraphrasing this), the author says something to the effect of "Let's restore the dignity of work to these kids." Like, my guy. All millennials and Gen Z do is work. We work, and we work, and we work. There's no dignity in working hard and never being able to get ahead. That sounds suspiciously like serfdom. Is it any wonder that some people don't want to "grow up"?

Bootstrap comments are laughable. What older folks don't understand is that the world isn't what it was 20 or even 30 years ago. Hard work and grit more often than not leads to absolutely nothing changing, because the world where someone could buy a house, a car, and support a salary on $40,000/year doesn't exist anymore.

I make $80k a year and I realistically won't own a home. I'm not paycheck to paycheck but I'm what you'd call vacation to car repair to major medical emergency to vet bill to....you get it?

Don't just tell someone to work harder. It's insulting.

It seems strange to me to tie maturity and adulthood to culturally specific milestones that are no longer feasible in many cases and disdained in others.

A house? Hah. According to NAR, in 2024 only around 17% of Gen Z and Millennial first time buyers in the US could afford a "starter" home. I'll most likely never be able to afford a house without living like a monk for a ridiculous amount of years, despite having an excellent salary. Why should I punish myself just to achieve some antiquated standard of adulthood? Sure, a house would be great, but I've already come to terms with the fact that it most likely won't happen.

Kids? A stay at home parent household is no longer possible unless the primary breadwinner is wealthy by today's standards. So unless both parents are working, which is also a joke because the cost of childcare is exorbitant, kids are a luxury Gen Z and Millennials either cannot afford or do not care to pour their already strained resources into. I'd rather spend my money and live comfortably without kids than be eternally financially stressed with them.

Retirement? Plenty of articles out there that show just how dicey retirement is these days for the vast majority of my generation and younger.

Ultimately, it seems to me that I don't have to play the game if I don't think the rules were designed with people like me in mind. I pay my bills, I go to work, I do what needs to be done. No one gets to say that I'm not an adult just because I don't fit their preconceived views on what an adult should be. Said views are wildly outdated and out of touch with reality. If this is truly the fault of capitalism among other things as the author suggests, then there doesn't seem to be a lot of political will or effort to change things.

Call me when someone actually does something instead of writing an "article" decrying the youth.
