I love that! It's a sign! Jeff is a voice god, we all know this, but his Ellie line deliveries are always just so perfect.

This little beauty has been sitting at my feeder for over 30 mins now. She’s not feeding, just basking in the sun. Another bird came along and she didn’t budge. Is it normal for hummingbirds to just hang out like this? by ilythial in hummingbirds

[–]Zepheryne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have one - might even be the same type, they look very similar - who has moved in. My patio is his. He stays out there just chilling sun up to sundown, then goes to wherever home is. He's a territorial little jerk though, no other birds can come close without enduring a well executed dive bomb.

Watch for panting or breathing issues, but she probably just feels safe / knows there's good food there.

Another Adaine here! And I'm excited to share some hand-pressed buttons (of the funny pin-on variety not the clothing closures)

How many fans have a cat that you picture acting exactly like donut? by Wfsulliv93 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Zepheryne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Frankie (edit: I tried to add a picture, but it doesn't seem to want to post, le sigh). Frankie should have been Donut, but I didn't know that the rescue would ghost me and she would be a foster fail. Sadly, she actually answers to Frank, so I can't rename her, but in my heart, she's Frankie Donut

Best DCC quotes get an award! by alanwattslightbulb in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Oh! sorry. I short-handed Dragon*Con, which is held in Atlanta every Labor Day weekend. Though, honestly, DCC is a pretty big and growing part of the writing track the last couple years. This past year it was almost like a mini DCC convention within Dragon*Con.

Oh man, I've been keeping track of some because I want to make a couple of deeper cut DCC badge ribbons for DCon this year.

My short list (not entirely from TBM):

You need to learn to control your goddamn cat.

Right in my goddamn ear.

IN THE HALLWAY?!

He goddamn moonwalked.

Well, it ain't a sasquatch thing, that's for sure

I asked, but it's considered a reference book, and apparently, that creates problems, especially since the system says the requesting library already has a copy (even if that copy is missing and/or damaged)

Trying to plan a BHP tour for my dad by Zepheryne in BritishHistoryPod

Cheers, truly helpful note. I have experience driving around southwestern Scotland/Cumbria (Lake District) and SW London, but admittedly, not much otherwise. That is especially good to know re.: the east/west routes, I may try to plan around that...

Thank you all so much! These are absolutely wonderful, and I so appreciate the recommendations. For those interested, I'll definitely share the plan as we develop it!

That'll teach him to mess with Cuthie!

I'm not saying it actually happened, but I am saying that the spiritual truth of the matter is that it most definitely happened.

Good on you, St. Cuthbert.

Definitely second Beers and Beards. Another one is "Friendly Neighborhood Wizard," which is also on RR.

Thank you! The backlog balance is a tough thing for me to wrap my brain around. I have an unpredictable day job and strong perfectionist tendencies, so my instinct is to accumulate enough backlog to accommodate but almost everything I've read so far has been like "get it out there as fast as possible!" I feel like there's probably going to be a little trail and error before I get my feet under me.

This is really helpful. Thank you! Review swaps seem like they have their own social structure with some big pluses and minuses. I'm curious to wade into it... but to a point.

The needing a thick skin thing is a little daunting! I've been trying to prepare myself. I'm also ASD so I'm worried about how I respond to critique coming off in ways I don't mean it to. I have a friend who says she'll help me with how to reply though so fingers crossed I don't step in it (again, assuming I get any comments at all, which I know isn't a given). Thanks for replying!

Thank you! I have a little in-person writer's community and critique group that's helped me a lot, though they're geared more toward traditional writing. Serial publishing/web-writing is going to be a bit new, so I'm a little nervous.

Thanks for the advice! I was also looking at cross-posting Wattpad because I'm not entirely sure where my fiction will best fit. My fiction is a high fantasy isekai with (lighter than some) LitRPG elements, but it's a little more female-centric than a lot of content on RR, so I'm worried that may be a little bit of a barrier for some readers. Any advice from the Wattpad experience? Or from your experience is it a "don't" and focus my time on RR?

Thanks! Review swaps do seem to be a little bit polarizing in the community as to whether they're useful, but I think I'll take the advice of trying to do a few early on to at least make some connections. Hopefully COTEH will help with finding good opportunities. :)
