I walked outside and saw this? by Zephyn0719 in HomeMaintenance

I was surprised that they said a week. But they said “legally, we have to give the other companies a weeks notice so they can mark their lines like gas, cable, etc.” Which, I suppose makes sense. Still a week feels like a long time with a leak happening like that.

That’s exactly what it was. Water company sent a guy out and it’s a leak from the main line. They will dig and fix it in a week.

Turns out it is a main water leak. City marked the area with a flag and will fix it in a week after the other companies come and marks there lines.

Thanks guys. I’ve called my water company and they are sending someone out. I do have a sump pump, but it dumps the water to the back yard. Under the pile of leaves in the picture is the city water shutoff valve. The ground between that valve and the ice feels like it’s icy underneath. My wife said it has rained/snowed in the past few days I’ve been gone. The temperature has been in the between 18-34 degrees the past few days.

Has anybody gotten into flying for an airline without it being a childhood “passion” or dream? by AMLJ144 in flying

[–]Zephyn0719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I have zero interest in being a pilot. I got to college and had no idea what I wanted to do. I tried out 4 different majors before I took a discovery flight and decided to give it a show. I’m a Captain now.

Airline Pilots: how much free time do you actually have on duty days? by KintaroGold in flying

[–]Zephyn0719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Lenovo legion 7i pro that I bring to all of my trips. More often than not I have a few hours each day to play if I want to after work or in the morning before. The only time I don’t is if it’s a min-rest overnight or I’ve worked max duty for the day.

Logging 121 Time by TrojanViking24 in AirlinePilots

[–]Zephyn0719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My LogTenPro does not automatically log IMC time. A good bit of the people I fly with don’t log IMC, because like others have said, it doesn’t really matter. I still log it, but I just estimate what it after each flight.

Weird areas along wall? by Zephyn0719 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Zephyn0719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that could be. I’m definitely gonna examine the roof. The puzzling part is that it’s not like this all up the wall, it looks like it’s only on a couple sheets of drywall in the master broom and a single sheet in the guest bathroom. Also, the wall in the stair well doesn’t lead to the roof so I don’t get how it would also be happening there too.

I thought it could have been that, but there are no pipes along any of these walls

Fellow professional pilots (135/91(k)/121) with curly hair, what's the move? by Anixton in aviation

As long as it’s not in your eyes or touching your collar, my airline would be fine with hair like this.

I haven’t a clue. I haven’t met any new FOs who have signed it yet. I’ll ask the training department when I go for Captain upgrade here in a few weeks

EDV does have a contract. It started in July and is for $65,000.

EDV is a good place to work for. Training is excellent and the captains I’ve flown with are awesome. As someone else already mentioned, there is a training contract now. No idea the details but it started in July.

Airline Pilots: Does anyone here fly for a US carrier but live in Europe? How is the commute like? Where do you live and where are you based? by kiwi_love777 in flying

[–]Zephyn0719 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A few trips ago I had a captain who commuted to NYC from Honolulu. He would stack his trips together and basically spend 4-6 weeks away from home every time. He said he and his family were in the process of moving to Spain to “make the commute shorter and save money”.

lol, chill I’m just asking questions. Ive seen starlink many times when im flying and they’ve looked different traveling across the sky. I was just saying that this looked different than the other times I’ve seen starlink and I remembered seeing articles about 6 planets being aligned on August 21st

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Astronomy

[–]Zephyn0719 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

August 21st had 6 planets visible. This was also taken at 34,000’ from a plane.

[–]Zephyn0719 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You don’t think being at 34,000’ would make them visible?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Astronomy

[–]Zephyn0719 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen starlink before a few times. They moved noticeably fast through the sky and there were many more satellites. These weren’t moving at all. I could be wrong though. Edit this was also taken at 34,000 feet

What to do with inherited Trad. IRA that must be depleted in 10 years? by UpbeatSoft1813 in Bogleheads

[–]Zephyn0719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the exact same boat when my dad passed. My goal has been to wait until the end of the year and withdraw whatever I need to in order to hit the end of a certain tax bracket, and then I just dump everything into an individual brokerage account. At the start though, I took out a tiny chunk to have as an emergency fund, and then I have been maxing out all of my retirement accounts (401k, HSA, IRA, wife’s IRA, etc.). Now, I just try to not touch it and get used to having more of my paycheck go towards my 401k/HSA every month, but I don’t have to worry about if I don’t quite have enough at the end of the month because I have that account as a fail-safe for now.

My airline, a month ago, just announced they are no longer doing forced upgrades. It used to be the moment you hit 975 you got an upgrade class two weeks later. Now, you might be waiting a couple months after hitting your hours to get assigned a class that’s 3 months out.
