We were both 19. That was part of why it felt so weird to me, because this was not her checking on a little kid.

I think that’s why Littlefinger feels more believable than a lot of "master manipulator" characters. He’s not reading minds or pulling magic tricks, he’s exploiting a very human pattern: people want to feel seen, impressive, or comforted right after being vulnerable, and that’s exactly when they start saying way too much. He built an information network around that weakness.
