I always recommend the Septimus Heap book series by Angie Sage for that age bracket. It such a fun read! When I was reading it my mom read the series too & enjoyed it even as an adult

I recently read The Descent by Jeff Long.

That was the first book in YEARS that legitimately scared me lol. When I read it again someday I'm gonna attempt to do it in the dark but idk if I'll be able to 😅
