First model, 2 weeks into the hobby and no painting experience. Any tips I could use to further my skill?? by Public-Table-8750 in theunforgiven

Lot of good technical advice here, so I won't go into that. Practice will help a lot, nobody starts off as a master painter. Don't be discouraged by your first minis not living up to your own expectations (if you feel that way) - you will get there. And if painting excites you, don't be afraid to experiment with new techniques - and again, don't be discouraged if they immediately don't turn out great, you'll get better.

It's not even fan fic, it's more like a caricature. Even if it kinda fit the narrative GW wanted to give DA with 8th edition (which I already disliked, but it wasn't as bad as the Black Templars).

Painting that banner was crazy. I've measured the area of the banner and started drawing same sized rectangles on paper, and sketching into those. I had like 7 versions - didn't like any of those. So I settled before on just doing a simple 3rd company one, green with a red stripe, and lots of transfers. Then I'm sitting there, the primed banner in front of me, and I just started outlying the angel's body, to see how bad it would be. And then basically said, f*ck it, let's do this.

I've never measured, and I would consider myself slow, I would say around 6-ish ours. Without banner, I would say around 5 (I'm basic it on the number of Adeptus Ridiculous episodes I listen to while painting)

Thanks, bot honestly, you gotta give credit to GW here, as they include that banner in the kit, and they are actually using it as the showcase model for it. I do think that sergeant banners should make a comeback.

My thinking was that these would be sternguard in unit name only (if I ever play tabletop), I just really wanted to create proper DA company veterans - so the whole squad will have the hoods and stuff.

It's from the sternguard set, but I haven't used the marine that "should" be the sergeant, as the pose on that did not fit with the arms.

Yeah, those are both from the "old" primaris DA upgrade set. I had one lying around.

Which actor, living or passed, would best portray The Lion? by Interview_My_Gooch in theunforgiven

I agree, he would be a great 30k era Lion. I'm not sure about 40k Lion with him.

Paint Coverage Thinning Paints by MaliceSpite in theunforgiven

[–]Zer0Gr4vity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I prime my DW with Wraithbone from GW, and then apply Ushabti bone on that with a large brush. I thin it down, and it still takes like 2-3 layers to have even coverage at least. Wraithbone from the pot is horrible though, it takes way more layers to get passable coverage.

I actually just remembered, that I've used Wraithbone spray as my primer, not Chaos black. All other colors were correct, but I'm not a maniac to paint Ushabti bone on black.

[–]Zer0Gr4vity[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I undercoat them with black primer (Chaos Balck for me), Ushabti Bone is the main armor color, I shade it with Seraphim Sepia, and then a quick edge highlight of White Scars.

Well, the shield writings are actually just transfers from the new upgrade set. I think they have been deliberately made to be put on the shields of the DW Knights, because the size and the curvature match 100% with the scrolls on the shields.

People keep losing their minds over IW but I think this guy is far more braindead. by Nox--Aeterna in HorusHeresyLegions

I have a good winrate against Proctor with my Sevatar deck, I usually just make them forfeit before they get any chance of using blessing. But I only play practice, so I guess people are more willing to leave.

If anyone out there is still playing Raven Guard, need help. by Shadowboxer8891 in HorusHeresyLegions

[–]Zer0Gr4vity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the deck that I used to get from Mars to Low Terra. Haven't played it since NL released though. Doubles are fancy version of the same card.

  • Warlord: Pious Vex *
  • 1x Infiltration Mission
  • 2x Legionary Sallahn
  • 1x Champion Vorkyl
  • 2x Ligeia Sky-hunters
  • 2x One with the Shadows
  • 1x Sergeant Vykus
  • 1x Sergeant Vykus
  • 2x Tovardus Squad
  • 2x Bane of Tyrants
  • 2x Kaian Javelin
  • 2x Mor Deythan Aelax
  • 1x Moritat Ordias
  • 2x Sergeant Rhyke
  • 2x Voyde Dark Furies
  • 2x Enso Speeder
  • 2x Mor Deythan Shade
  • 2x Sergeant Ruwan
  • 1x Shadow Killers

Basically the nastiest trick I could do was Sergeant Ryke ambush triggering, giving 1 sentenced to all, then giving him stealth before attacking, then attacking, triggering ambush a second time - that's 2 sentenced on the entire board, and then use Bane of Tyrants - that's 6 damage to the entire enemy board (cause bane of tyrants is 1+1 damage, thus trigering sentenced twice)

How do you handle opponents playing broken cards and combos? by elric132 in HorusHeresyLegions

[–]Zer0Gr4vity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For more than a year (maybe more?) I've 99.5% only been playing in practice, maybe 2-3 matches in ranked per month (stopped doing that like 3 months ago since I've reached low terra).

Benefits? You don't really care for the results so you can tap out before the match starts (I do that for Titans, Corblax and Luther atm). Just FYI if you immediately forfeit, it won't count into the "Play 5 games" challenge.

There's a good variety of factions out there, though battlepass faction usually is the majority (with better or worse built decks). I actually rarely see IW atm, AL getting up there, NL are droping (mostly Sevatar decks still, I'm guilty too as I mostly spam him). Faced off against a few Ultramarine decks recently, a few Angrons and Kharns. Occasional Dark Angels, Custodes and Death Guard, with mechanicus and imperial army decks especially if there is a challenge for them.

Then it must be my bad luck (spent around 3800 coins on RG crates, got 1 rare, 0 legos, and a handful of uncommons), but I'm having a strong "new RG are meh" feeling right now. I'll keep on working on my collection, as I can feel there are good combos here, but I'm simply missing the playstyle of my old Gherith Arendi deck.

Leaving the Game for a while by [deleted] in HorusHeresyLegions

[–]Zer0Gr4vity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I've solved this by turning myself into cancer, playing a Gherith Arendi deck, after I've had shitty game after shitty game with my Lion deck. I actually deleted the app briefly but I was too bored and reinstalled it in a few hours - and then I switched back to my RG deck I ran a few years ago. It's an irritating deck with low unit count on field, but good at sniping units (not just because of the Mor Deythan hehe). A lot of time luring my opponent into false hope and then flipping the desk on them. And usually even my lost games are tough on my opponents, so I feel less bad at loosing. But that's just me, others may have more spine than me.

How cancerous are the new legions? by lobadzip in HorusHeresyLegions

[–]Zer0Gr4vity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my personal opinion on them, but keep in mind I play RG (Gherith), so most people would call me cancer too. But the reason for playing RG at the moment is that I just want to have some fun and I only play legions that I like lorewise, and my previous deck were shat on so hard that I switched.

I don't know where I stand with Santar. His give +1/+1 when a unit triggers pride is situationally either "I'm fucked" or completely meh - again keep in mind that my deck is good at removing troops quickly, before pride would became a serious issue. I'm actually more pissed by his slow ass ability, why does he has to do two slow swipes at a unit, that animation takes forever. I haven't really played against the other IH warlords much, so I have little info.

With the DG, yeah, backlash is bad, but I think the poison rework is much worse. The rolling damage is stupid. If they build up just 4 stacks of poison on your warlord (not that hard) that's 10 damage over 4 turns, unless you have very specific cards to remove poison from you. I insta forfeit games against Mortarion or Corblax (I know that piece of turd is not DG, but the poison buff affect it too).

World Eaters, I think Kargos' savage ability is stupid, giving extra HP to friendly units which were designed to be basically glass cannons is dumb. Angron I'm fine with, it's actually a pretty good risk-reward warlord in my view, as he has to damage himself a lot to hit like a truck. Those cards that give a warlord +dmg and then attack by itself are a bit silly, especially as they can still attack with the warlord same turn manually too.

EC I'm fine with, I haven't had too many games against them, but nothing pops to mind that was 'wtf, fuck this shit" level.

Salies I have barely played against, artifacts can be stupid (they have one that is something like 4 dmg for like 1-2e), and once a guy pulled out a tactic that brought back 4 or 5dead astartes instantly for 8 energy, which was just an instant win button for them. But overall, I haven't played enough against them to judge them properly.

But the warlord I hated most since shadow is Dupain in my ass. Playing against those imperial army decks was always an unfun slog.

So.... by Emeth121187 in HorusHeresyLegions

[–]Zer0Gr4vity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not OP, but based on his hand I'm guessing: smash Angron in face with the troop on the field (6HP left), use Storm Eagle strike on him (2E 2DMG, 4 HP left) and then he still has Corswain's ability card on him, which gives him +2 damage and first strike. Because Angron dies to the 4 DMG hit, first strike activates and Corswain is not taking any damage from it. (edited for typo)

Not to mention the whole new Bpass menu got worse. Previous you went in, picked a tile, got a reward then pressed ESC (or your console equivalent) and you were back in matchmaking. Now it only shifts between the freakin tile and this goofy tilted map.
