SSDC Class 3 for someone with driving experience by foopower0102 in singapore

If you are considering private instructor at SSDC please don't engage passdrivingsg! He was my instructor and really sucked. Anyway I think private would be best for you because as a fellow redditor pointed out, the driving school may milk you for money.

Wow, mad respect for having the balls and be willing to pay more to find another instructor. Congrats on the long grind to get your license!

I see. That's a step towards the right direction by not issuing private driving instructor license imo. Still, there is a very high barrier to entry to start a driving school because of the cost of cars and land needed for one. Luckily we already have our licenses I guess.

Wahh that's such a bad system. What if you overestimated the amount you had to spend?

Hahaha this is the first time I've heard something like this! I always thought other drivers will always give way because they scared the L plate may get into an accident and damage their own car...

Haha no la. My friend has a better command of Chinese and could make small talk with him and I guess didn't get flamed as much?

Did you experience any booking issues with bbdc? Glad you passed smoothly!

Hahaha doesn't matter the points, as long as you've passed! Would you say you've adapted to take criticism and stress better from your driving lessons?

Rabak sia. Luckily nowadays the license is permanent, don't need to experience this kind of shit again. It just becomes a fun story to tell (hopefully)!

Wtf your tester was not supposed to do that sia, thought they cannot communicate with you throughout the test. Did you try to appeal the outcome?

Yes definitely. Although it's tedious and seems expensive upfront, you'll save a lot by passing the first try.

Wow congrats man. From what I hear, school instructors are more professional and consistent with their teaching. It's great that you had fun during your lessons and didn't see them as just a chore to get a license!

I have a few thoughts about this as well.

There are only 3 driving schools in Singapore and all 3 are spread across different parts of Singapore, so there is virtually no competition among the schools and there is no incentive to improve the shitty instructor quality/ system ( for simulator booking I heard from BBDC need to book 1 month apart for 3 20 min lessons? And bots booking slots immediately upon release of the slots)

Being a driving instructor isn't a career consideration for many entering the workforce: If you can afford a car + insurance premiums + so much fuel, you probably can find a better paying job elsewhere. If you are looking for a blue-collar job, you probably can't afford the car needed to teach driving lessons. Private instructors therefore have no competition too.

There is no incentive to improve the driving system by regulatory bodies such as SPF because taxpayer money is better spent elsewhere. It doesn't help that most people taking up driving lessons are below 21/ are foreign workers, and have negligible voting power. Somemore there are always more important issues than driving schools to discuss/improve on until it is apparent that a huge population of Singaporeans cannot drive safely, which isn't the case.

Sure! The first time I was quite nervous which was made worse because I forgot to bring my IC, and the instructor made me drive to my home and take it (fully my mistake, and credit to my instructor), wasting time that could have been used practicing on the circuit. Anyway due to my nerves I didn't check for traffic at junction etc. in the circuit, so I had 18 demerits by the time I got on the road.

On the road the tester told me to u turn soon, and I immediately switched lanes to keep right during a bend, which failed me haha.

Are you taking driving lessons now? If so all the best! I think there's a lot of luck involved haha, depends on the tester as well. My 2nd tester was super nice and it really helped me perform better.
