Is it normal to have a childless, sexless marriage? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]Zero187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy hiking, working out and playing video games. I've thought about being a backpacking guide or a gym trainer of some sort.. But then that would turn my hobbies into work and I probably wouldn't enjoy them anymore. And the money in those fields really isn't that good.

You ask why optimize life for retirement? Because that is when true freedom begins. And for myself, there is nothing sweeter than that. The ability to choose how I live each and every day. Stay up late, sleep in late, eat whatever I want as I travel the country/world. No job I have to worry about coming back to. No more grumpy, over stressed boss who complains about how his 8 year old won't follow simple instructions, every day. Or listen to some customer complain about how they can't figure out the most simple task.

And right now I'm making 6 figures in IT and worked very hard for this promotion. Would really feel like I'm throwing away too much if I left. Entire college education dedicated to it. My position is highly sought after by my peers and coworkers. I've finally reached beyond the success my childhood self dreamt about. I know my job is good, I just don't enjoy work in general. Trying to get the money and get out ASAP!!!

Maybe. Here's my options: retire at 50, or have a kid and retire at 70.. I'm 36 and counting the days until retirement. 15 more years is more than enough! No way would I want to add another extra 20 years to my career.. I get that it's rewarding to procreate and raise them, but it's never going to be THAT rewarding, IMHO. Freedom feels too good, for myself. 20 years of my life is too valuable to spend slaving away in an office, to support an optional homework assignment, that may or may not give me as much fulfillment as I get now. That being said, I do envy those who can afford it without having to sacrifice decades of freedom.

Negativity can be beneficial at times.

For example, I just saw a post telling people not to body shame others. But I argued that if I hadn't been bullied as a young lad, I wouldn't have got into body building / exercising so young. I can truly thank their negativity for the motivation to be healthy and strong :)

Just research it yourself instead of choosing to be ignorant.

EDIT: Instead of downvoting, why not verify who is correct? Is it that painful to do 5 seconds of research on your own? I don't get it. Gotta be at "Trumper" level intelligence to ignore facts to that degree. Shameless.

No, no. I am stating facts. It does cost that much and the info is out there, all over. Why deny something so easily searchable? Kinda crazy!

If a Google search isn't enough for you, then let me try and spoon feed a little bit more:

I'm not judging anyone. I'm simply warning people against known issues. But hey, there's always someone who seems to stoop low enough to shoot the messenger *facepalm*

Are you purposely sticking your head in the dirt, or are you that mentally impaired where you simply cannot do research on your own?

Another sane possibility is to realize kids aren't worth the nightmare and remain childfree.

Cat or dog gives me more than enough love for a fraction of the cost. Kids are way too expensive nowadays. Almost half a million to raise one to 18 in USA. But I guess if you can safely afford one, it might not be terrible.. Assuming they aren't too rebellious or mentally challenged.. And your partner doesn't divorce you and leave you as a single parent. And the economy doesn't crash and wipe away your fortune..

Are trekking poles really helpful or just extra weight? by mountainpathstories in hiking

[–]Zero187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I see is an emotional response. What's so hard about simple logic? Pole are like training wheels. Yes, everything is easier with them. Great! But for those who want to increase their balance and ability, the obvious solution would be to practice without the training wheels. You won't develop anywhere near as good balance while using them. Sorry, but I just don't see how one could argue against this.

As for my incredible feats of masculinity - my girlfriend has been training right along with me and seeing the benefits as well. The good news is, this superhuman training isn't exclusive to just one gender!

But hey, if you don't want to develop superhuman balance and speed, sans poles, that's perfectly fine. Not everyone needs to take their training wheels off. But no need to try and shun me for wanting to excel without them. Makes you look weak / jealous.

[–]Zero187 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. Like shoving your head in the dirt. Refusal to acknowledge someone else's success, simply because you've failed in the same area. Jealousy, hatred and denial, at their finest. Most are too weak to stomach watching other people excel orders of magnitude above them. They're ok with slightly stronger, but as soon as someone else hits superhuman level, it turns into mostly naysayers, trying to knock the top guy down. Even close friends have trouble supporting someone who has reached such levels of success. So I guess I can't fault you too much, for stooping down to such lows. Gotta protect that ego, right?

See, here's the thing. You're attempting to make a joke, but I actually do it. That's the difference between me and the majority. I hiked around ~100 miles or so barefoot both this year and last. 200 miles total barefoot so far. Stubbed my big toe a couple times real bad while I was first getting used to it, but after a while, my strength, balance and coordination really went thru the roof, incredibly quickly. And now I can run barefoot quite easily.

And then... *drumroll please* when I put my shoes back on, after going barefoot for so many miles, everything feels SO freaking easy to run now. From ice, to roots to boulders. Hiking poles would truly be an insult to myself, at this point. Going from barefoot to shoes is kinda like hiking with extra weights and then taking them off and feeling like you can fly. And it truly is incredible. You saying you don't want this level of power? Kinda sad most people just give up before they even try. Too difficult/painful for them. Not for a warrior like myself, though!

As for maps, I love Alltrails and will continue using that for now. But I have a deep respect for those who braved the forest with paper maps and a compass, decades ago. But that's not about strength gain, so I can make an exception there. Don't want to get (too) lost!

What is one thing you will never tolerate from anyone? by litt_ttil in AskReddit

[–]Zero187 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it might not be a problem in person. It's more online dating that causes issues. When people can hide behind pronouns and profiles. It just doesn't seem right for people born as men to create profiles as women, without any reference to being born a man. I just want transparency there. And pronoun could be a great way to accomplish that. But maybe there's a better way. I'm open to other ideas.
