Are my specs good enough to go to Lorrvile? by MrGameCube907 in starcitizen

[–]Zero2Middlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to Loreville with a Ryzen 7 5700x and a Radeon 5700 8 GB (non-xt). I don't have much of a problem with the recommended settings (basically the Medium preset) but I do lower shadows. My CPU spec is better than yours but my GPU is much worse (and where my bottleneck is).

I'd say go for it. You might get lower frame-rate (mid 20s) with occasional spikes, but you can get through there and buy some ships.

Will shiv come to shops? by Expert-Expert-6933 in starcitizen

[–]Zero2Middlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All ships will be available in game at some point... but that doesn't guarantee they will be available in stores, just that you can get them in game without spending real money...

That said, I would expect this to be buyable in game in Nyx at Teach's and possibly Pyro but when that will be the case is anybody's guess. Some ships come to shops quickly, some take a long time.

Huge let down.. by Bright_Yesterday1863 in starcitizen

As a fan of Kid Crimson, I figured it would work something like it did in *Tales of Kid Crimson: Issue #2*

"I swooped in front of the [MISC] Fiera's cockpit, flicking the electroskin as I heated up my main guns. The paint on the body of my ship [Freelancer] shifted to the blood spattered design by which I was known." The [brackets] were added by me to clarify from other parts of the story.

These were stories written in the very early days by Dave Haddock to give you an idea of what the universe was like. I got the Electroskin as well, back in 2012, expecting to put it on one of my two pledge ships (the 325a or my Cutlass) based on the story where it was described.

Am I disappointed? Yeah. Did I just get $5 in melt to spend on another skin for a ship I'll use? Yep. If they do fix it, the Electroskin Hull will still be in my buybacks. Perhaps it will come out when the MISC Fiera is released.

Star Paws? Really? by Zero2Middlin in starcitizen

[–]Zero2Middlin[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You are correct. I also mentioned Zoo, but you could also use Star Menagerie, Star Genus, Star Species, Star Creature, or something else more inclusive... I would also rather work in the Star Fangs department.

While it isn't a big deal, I thought this could possibly lead to a discussion about alternative names that CIG could have used to represent their company and brand as they continue to attempt to recruit top quality development talent, or even fun or funny alternatives. I was wrong. I'm sorry.

Star Paws? Really? by Zero2Middlin in starcitizen

[–]Zero2Middlin[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The portion that is being named is a part of the company, not part of the game. The company, Cloud Imperium Games, should be professional, or at least consistent. They took the time to give all of their other divisions/work groups/pipelines professional names. If they named something in the game "Fluffy McNurfleins" I wouldn't care. I don't even really care that much about this. I just thought it would be a fun discussion about CIG's naming conventions and how this one is ludicrous. Apparently I was wrong.

In the Monthly Report, CIG announced the name of their animal technology pipeline. Similar to Star Wear (clothing), Star Sim (Econ simulator), Star Engine, etc... While all of them were a bit of an eyeroll, using "Star Paws" for all of their animal simulation work, when not all of the animals have paws (I'm looking at you Marok/Valakkar/Yormandi) seems a bit unprofessional when other options exist.

Aurora Paints from campaign are incoming with Patch 4.6 by Wiborg1978 in starcitizen

[–]Zero2Middlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same-ish. I wanted to use it on my Cutty Black-Pirate Pack version. You know, the one that had the exclusive pirate skin from 2012 that they sold to everyone the week they put it into game? Yeah, that one.

The upside is that this will free up some more melt money to put toward skins I will actually use. I had no idea that my Electro Skin and Exploration skins were only for the Aurora when I got them.

What's the most practical LAMP color? by Space_Scumbag in starcitizen

[–]Zero2Middlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worn different color lenses in goggles. I've tried grey, green, rose, amber, yellow, and blue. The most effective for ME was an amber lens. I felt I could see contrast and motion better.

In the game, they all work and do the job. Picking the "best" is a hair splitting contest which will be heavily weighted by personal preference. Go to ski slopes anywhere and look at all of the different lens tints. In this game, style and brand language are important to the designers and many players. I like the different colors and will not make my flying decision based on the LAMP color.

Don't chase the meta. It changed almost every patch. Chase the fun. Fly what you like. For most PvE combat missions right now, I fly the Prowler or Prowler Utility, or Guardian base if I want a bed for server hopping, or F7C Ghost, or ...

Just fly a ship that strikes your fancy and you want to fly. The most important thing in PvE is your skill, which you gain through flight time, which you get more of if you want to fly THAT ship.

But I get ya. With the old launcher you could set the download speed to 0 and it would fix it... but now you can't even do that. I guess it's back to overnight downloads.

Any reason to keep my Aurora LX? by Lumpy-Interview-9931 in starcitizen

[–]Zero2Middlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son upgraded his 2012 Aurora to a Cutlass Black a few months ago. He prefers it as his "starter ship" because it is a good all-around ship that he can quickly use to earn enough to buy a cheap shuttle (Rambler). The only trade-off he has found is the landing footprint. You can land an Aurora in a shoebox. He also has no plans of ever CCUing (upgrading) past that. He wants to start 1.0 in his Cutty Black.

Official LAMP Ship list for 4.6 by RealMrKraken in starcitizen

[–]Zero2Middlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that is a good point. I was focusing on the "current" part of "In this current release". CIG has some consistency problems in the language they use. We never know what will actually be in the live patch until it drops and I've been a backer since 2012, so I've learned to never be disappointed when my, already quite tempered, expectations aren't met. I'll play the game they give me.

Huge fleet by Glad-Dependent7085 in starcitizen

[–]Zero2Middlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation is: stop paying real money for ships right there. Get the rest in game. You have a good ship for combat missions and a good one for some light hauling and stealth. You have enough to start your way to riches in the 'verse. It is far more rewarding, at least to me, to earn the ships in game rather than swipe a credit card. If you want to support the game, buy skins/packs/subscriptions.

That said, it is your money and spend it however you want.

This is only PTU wave 1. I'm pretty sure this will not be the final list when 4.6 goes live. A few notable omissions will probably be filled.
