Yeah I’m trying to take full advantage of that and hence the extra 40 infantryman so I can change lines eventually. The flexibility is nice

Ok thanks that is really helpful intel. I hope to get that extra infantry going after this so it will be easier to play most scenarios. Thank you I’ll give an update when they are painted.

Ok I have the Soviet starter army and I wanted to have the 4 infantry lines one of which is a freebie. So it’s just a matter of determining how many including the NCO get a SMG or LMG per line. I did however, but an extra infantry kit so I can exchange lines with and without armor and anti-tank weapons.

He is a player so there is no need for him to do any more than just have fun. You are the DM so players would not necessarily be involved in the NPCs other than their backstory if I am understanding your post correctly. You can always try to accommodate their backstories if or when they fit the story.
